LG's panel at CES 2020 ended a few tens of minutes ago. During the presentation, the company revealed a lot of news, but Apple fans will especially be pleased with the arrival of the Apple TV application to a relatively large number of smart televisions.

LG will thus be the next manufacturer, after Samsung, Sony and TCL, whose smart TVs will receive official support for the Apple TV application. It serves as a kind of lightweight software replacement for the classic Apple TV by not only enabling the sharing of information from iPhone/iPad/Mac, but also allowing access to the iTunes library or the Apple TV+ streaming service.

LG will release the Apple TV application for most of its models this year (in the case of OLED series, it will receive support for all 13 newly introduced models). In addition to them, however, the Apple TV application will also appear on selected models from 2019 and 2018 during the year. The specific list of supported devices has not yet been published, but LG will already be better off with support than Sony, which released Apple TV only for selected 2019 models and owners of older (even high-end) models were out of luck.

All newly introduced smart TVs from LG also support the AirPlay 2 protocol and the HomeKit platform. LG also introduced several huge 8K models with diagonals from 65 to 88 inches. This year could be quite interesting from the point of view of Apple fans in this regard. Those who still don't have a classic Apple TV may not even need it in the end, as support for the software solution continues to expand. Yes, the application as such will never completely replace (at least in the near future) the capabilities and capabilities of the hardware Apple TV, but for many, the functionality of the application will be quite sufficient.
