Last week, we informed you that LG is gradually introducing support for the Apple TV application on some models of its smart TVs. In addition to this application and the recently introduced support for AirPlay 2 technology, according to LG, support for Dolby Atmos surround sound technology should also be added later this year. Owners of selected LG smart TV models should receive support in the form of one of the future software updates.

The Apple TV application can currently be used on LG smart TVs by owners of selected models in the US and more than eighty other countries around the world. This year's smart TV models, which LG presented at the beginning of the year at CES, will be available with the Apple TV application pre-installed.

Dolby Atmos is a technology that provides users with a surround sound experience. Previously, you could meet Dolby Atmos mainly in movie theaters, but gradually this technology also reached home theater owners. In the case of Dolby Atmos, the sound channel is carried by a single data stream, which is divided by the decoder based on the settings. The distribution of sound in space occurs due to the use of a larger number of channels.

This method of sound distribution enables a much better experience thanks to the imaginary division of the sound into several separate components, where the sound can be assigned to individual objects on the scene. The location of the sound in space is then much more accurate. The Dolby Atmos system offers a wider range of speaker placement options, so they can find their place around the perimeter of the room as well as on the ceiling – Dolby says Atmos sound can be sent up to 64 separate tracks. Dolby Atmos technology was introduced by Dolby Laboratories in 2012 and is also supported by, for example, Apple TV 4K with the tvOS 12 operating system and later.
