On April 11, Apple first said it was working on a software tool to detect and remove the Flashback malware from infected Macs. Flashback Checker was released earlier to easily detect if a given Mac is infected. However, this simple application cannot remove the Flashback malware.

While Apple is working on its solution, antivirus companies are not lazing around and developing their own software to clean infected computers with a bitten apple in the emblem.

Russian antivirus company Kaspersky Lab, which played a key role in monitoring and informing users about the threat called Flashback, presented interesting news on April 11. Kaspersky Lab now offers free web application, with which the user can find out if his computer is infected. The company also introduced a mini-application Flashfake Removal Tool, which makes it quick and easy to remove malware.

The F-Secure group also introduced its own freely available software to remove the malicious Flashback Trojan.

The antivirus company also points out that Apple does not yet offer any protection for users running systems older than Mac OS X Snow Leopard. Flashback exploits a vulnerability in Java that allows installation without user privileges. Apple released Java software patches for Lion and Snow Leopard last week, but computers running the older operating system remain unpatched.

F-Secure points out that more than 16% of Mac computers are still running Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard, which is certainly not an insignificant figure.

Update April 12: Kaspersky Lab has informed that it has withdrawn its application Flashfake Removal Tool. This is because in some cases the application may delete certain user settings. A fixed version of the tool will be published as soon as it is available.

Update April 13: If you want to make sure your computer is not infected, visit www.flashbackcheck.com. Enter your hardware UUID here. If you do not know where to find the required number, click on the button on the page Check my UUID. Use a simple visual guide to find the information you need. Enter the number, if everything is fine, it will appear for you Your computer is not infected by Flashfake.

But if you have a problem, a fixed version is already available Flashfake Removal Tool and is fully functional. You can download it <a href="https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/1932/8043/files/200721_ODSTOUPENI_BEZ_UDANI_DUVODU__EN.pdf?v=1595428404" data-gt-href-en="https://en.notsofunnyany.com/">here</a>. Kaspersky Lab apologizes for any inconvenience caused by this error.
