At today's conference, Apple most praised the brand new M1 processor, which beats both in the new Mac mini and in the MacBook Air and 13″ MacBook Pro. If you often need to connect various peripherals to your computer, you can look forward to USB 4. Unfortunately, Apple only offers Thunderbolt 3 support for these devices, you won't get the newer Thunderbolt 4 standard.

In July, Intel shared with us the features of the Thunderbolt 4 port that PC owners with Tiger Lake processors and above will be able to enjoy. At first glance, the difference does not appear to be noticeable, because the transfer speeds of Thunderbolt 4 and Thunderbolt 3 remained the same - i.e. 40 Gb/s. However, Intel has brought several interesting improvements, including support for two 4K displays or one 8K monitor, 32 Gbps PCIe for transfer speeds of up to 3 MB/s, support for docks with up to four Thunderbolt 000 ports or waking the device from sleep mode using the keyboard and mice connected via Thunderbolt.

Intel has also designed new cables that support all the features that Thunderbolt 4 will offer. Fortunately, the design does not change, thanks to which they will be compatible with both USB 4 and Thunderbolt 3. If the news regarding Thunderbolt 4 excited you, then it is at least a shame for you that you will not see the latest standard in the newly introduced machines from Apple. On the other hand, we still have a lot to look forward to, and if you want to pre-order new laptops from the Apple workshop, you can do so today.

  • Newly introduced Apple products will be available for purchase in addition to Apple.com, for example at Alge, Mobile Emergency or u iStores
