In front of the court on Friday, when the Apple vs. Samsung, discovered by one of the senior men behind Google's Android operating system. Samsung asked him to explain to the jury that it was not about copying Apple in development.

Google is in a rather paradoxical situation here. Apple is suing Samsung for copying its patents, but the target is also Google and its operating system, which is found in Samsung mobile devices, although usually in modified versions that are already created by the hardware manufacturers themselves. However, the court's decision could also directly affect Google, which is why Samsung decided to summon several of its employees.

On Friday, Hiroshi Lockheimer, vice president of engineering in the Android division, testified, after his presentation by explaining, why should Samsung pay over two billion dollars, Apple concluded. "We like to have our own identity, our own ideas," testified Lockheimer, who said he first saw a demo of Android in January 2006. At the time, he was completely captivated by the operating system, which is why he joined Google in April.

According to Lockheimer's testimony, only 20 to 30 people were working on Android at the time, and when its first version was released in 2008, Google had only about 70 employees on the project. "We purposely kept the team very small," Lockheimer said, noting that development of the operating system was very hard work, with regular 60- to 80-hour work weeks. “People think of Google as a big company, but we were a small team. We were autonomous and Google let us work." Currently, six to seven hundred people are already working on Android.

Samsung subpoenaed a high-ranking Google official in an attempt to convince a jury that many of the features of mobile phones were not invented by Apple, which later patented them, but by Google before Apple. Of course, even those that are the subject of a lawsuit will exclude the "slide-to-unlock" function for unlocking the screen. For example, according to Lockheimer, the background synchronization function was always planned for Android, on the other hand, the touch screen at Google was not initially considered at all, but the development of technology changed everything, so finally the touch screen was deployed.

The trial will continue on Monday and Samsung could reportedly call up to 17 more witnesses, but Judge Lucy Koh is likely to try to reduce that number.
