AirTag makes it easy to track things like your keys, wallet, purse, backpack, suitcase and more. But it can also track you, or you can track someone with it. The issue of privacy regarding various electronic devices is debated every day, but is it appropriate? Quite possibly yes, but you will do little about it.

Apple has updated the guide Personal Safety User Guide, which serves as a source of information for anyone concerned about abuse, stalking or harassment through modern technology. This is available not only on Apple's website, but also in the format PDF for download. It describes the security functions present in Apple products, with a newly added section relating to AirTags, i.e. this single-purpose product designed exclusively for "monitoring".

The guide includes helpful tips on how to control who can access your location, how to block unknown login attempts, how to avoid fraudulent requests to share information, how to set up two-factor authentication, how to manage privacy settings, and more. Additionally, the company should keep updating this guide. It's a nice step, but will everyone study it to the letter? Of course not.

Every cloud has a silver lining

In the case of AirTag, it is rather the opposite. This simple product is ingeniously integrated into the Najít platform without being expensive, consuming data, or draining significantly. It relies on Apple's network of products to locate it even when it's not connected to your device. Anything so easy to find almost anywhere in the world, all it takes is for someone to walk past your AirTag with their iPhone. But we live in a time of surveillance, and everyone by everyone.

This is also why it is always discussed when someone slips their AirTag to you that they can track where you are moving. Yes, it's a resonating topic that Apple is aware of, which is why it also offers various forms of notification if there's an AirTag near you that doesn't have an active connection to its owner or device. It is not only the company's platform, but you can also download an application on Android that will inform you about this (but you have to run it first).

AirTag is not the only one

AirTag has the advantage of being small and therefore easy to hide. Due to the low energy requirements, it can keep locating the thing/object for a relatively long time. But on the other hand, it cannot send the location regularly if it is not located by some device. And now let's look at other solutions that would be relatively more suitable for "stalking". However, we definitely do not want to encourage this, we just want to point out that the AirTag itself is perhaps too much to deal with.

Locators will always conflict with privacy, however, the common ones that do not have such a connection to the world wide web are limited after all. Even so, they were previously also the subject of various conjectures. But then there are newer, more modern, more perfect and better solutions than AirTag. At the same time, they are not large in size, so even they could be hidden quite elegantly, while they determine the position at regular intervals or even on request. Their main disadvantage is battery life, because if you wanted to track someone with them, you wouldn't be able to do so for a year, but only for weeks.

Invoxia GPS Pet Tracker although it is primarily intended for tracking pets, it will work just as well in luggage or anywhere else. Its indisputable advantage is that it does not require a SIM card or operator services. It runs on the Sigfox broadband network, which is necessary for the functioning of IoT devices. It enables, for example, wireless connection, low energy consumption and data transmission over any distance (coverage in the Czech Republic is 100%). In addition, the manufacturer says that it is the lightest, most compact and most self-sufficient geolocation solution that can last for a month on a single charge.

Quite recently then Vodafone introduced his locator Curb. It already contains a built-in SIM, but its advantage is that it runs directly on the operator's network and you don't have to worry about anything. You just buy it and then pay a monthly flat rate of CZK 69. Here, the location is updated easily every 3 seconds, you don't care about the amount of data transferred. Of course, this is also primarily intended for watching over things and pets. The battery lasts here for 7 days. Both solutions are simply better than AirTag, and they are just two of many.

There is no solution

Why is AirTag security being addressed? Because Apple is getting in the way of many people. There are a number of different people tracking solutions around the world, with hardware being just one way that individuals tend to use. But then there are corporations that go big and collect various data about you. In considerable problems it is necessary now Google, which tracked its users even if they didn't allow it.

The tracking problem can hardly be solved. If you want to enjoy the achievements of the modern age, you practically cannot avoid it in some respect. Unless you used a push button phone with a prepaid card and moved somewhere where foxes say good night. But you will be in danger of starvation, because you will not be able to go out or shop. Cameras are everywhere these days.
