The long-awaited AirPower charger could soon be heading to our desks. The codes of the latest beta version of iOS 12.2 reveal how it will work.

Apple released the sixth beta version of the iOS mobile operating system with the numerical designation 12.2. Of course, this did not escape the attention of the developers, who examined all the changes in the codes in detail. And they found very interesting references regarding the component responsible for wireless charging.

The new part of the source codes works with device identification on the wireless charger. According to the analyzed code, the primary device, usually represented by an iPhone, is able to identify the other device that is charging together with it.

As we already know, AirPower will be able to charge up to three different devices at once. The device with the largest display will then serve to display the charging status for all of them. According to the revealed codes, it will not only be about status information, but also 3D animation with the exact type of device. This is exactly what the wireless charging component will take care of.

Availability of AirPower is tied to iOS 12

All these code changes lead to one thing - Apple has either completely finished or is finishing work on AirPower. Earlier there were reports that AirPower production will start on January 21st. This is now indicated by changes in iOS 12 itself.

This week, Apple has already introduced the updated fifth-generation iPad mini, the revived iPad Air and the upgraded iMacs. According to information, we should at least wait for the seventh generation of iPod touch, and theoretically it could also be the turn of AirPower.

AirPower Apple

Although everything looks promising and the wireless charger could be heading to the Apple Store or APR retailers by the end of this week, it will probably not be available until the beginning of April at the earliest. Its functionality is directly linked to the elements implemented in the beta version of iOS 12.2. It should reach all users after the Keynote on March 25 at the latest.

Anticipation for Apple to launch AirPower is now at an all time high. Basically, after two years since the announcement at the Keynote together with the iPhone X, we could really look forward to the wireless charger from Cupertino. Everything points to it, all that remains is to wait.
