At first glance, Apple's wireless AirPods headphones do not look like a product that would be the first choice for users who rely on sound quality and fullness. No one is saying that AirPods are inherently bad headphones. But they certainly don't have the image of an audio accessory that would allow users to fully and one hundred percent enjoy all aspects of the music they play. But is that really the case? Vlad Savov from the magazine TheVerge ranks among audiophiles and recently decided to take a closer look at apple wireless headphones. What did he find out?

From the beginning, Savov admits that it was very difficult for him to even take AirPods seriously. He has spent a significant part of his professional life testing and using expensive headphones from famous names and has always put listening quality above comfort - which is why the tiny, elegant-looking AirPods didn't really interest him at all at first glance. "When I heard that they were like EarPods, it didn't exactly fill me with confidence," admits Savov.

Like wireless EarPods or not?

When Savov decided to try AirPods, he was led out of a series of mistakes. The headphones didn't even remotely remind him of just the wireless version of EarPods. Of course, wires play a role here. According to Savov, the EarPods fit very loosely in the ear, and if you mess with their wires, they can easily fall out of your ear. But AirPods fit precisely, firmly and reliably, regardless of whether you are doing push-ups, lifting heavy weights or running with them.

In addition to comfort, the sound quality was a pleasant surprise for Savov. Compared to EarPods, Teb is much more dynamic, however, it is still not enough to fully compete with products focused primarily on sound quality. However, the shift in quality is noticeable here.

Who needs AirPods?

"AirPods can express the mood and intention of the music I listen to," says Savov, adding that the headphones still lack a full experience of listening to the soundtrack of the movie Blade Runner or a 100% ability to enjoy the bass, but he was pleasantly surprised by the AirPods. "There is enough of everything in them," Savov admits.

According to Savov, the AirPods are not technically amazing headphones compared to existing standards, but in the category of wireless "earbuds" they are the best he has ever heard - even their much-derided design Savov found very functional and meaningful. Thanks to the placement of the device for Bluetooth connectivity and charging in the "stem" of the headphones, Apple has managed to ensure even better and higher-quality sound with AirPods.

It also works with Android

The connection between AirPods and the iPhone X is of course almost perfect, but Savov also mentions the problem-free operation with the Google Pixel 2. The only thing missing from the Android device is the option of automatic pause and the battery life indicator on the phone's display. One of the huge pluses of AirPods, according to Savova, is the unusually high quality of the Bluetooth connection, which worked even when other devices failed.

In his review, Savov also highlights the way in which the case for AirPods was designed, which ensures that the headphones are charged. Savov praises the case's rounded edges and the seamless way it opens and closes.

Of course, there were also negatives, such as insufficient isolation from ambient noise (which is, however, a feature that a certain group of users, on the contrary, prefer), not very good battery life (there are wireless headphones on the market that can last for more than four hours on a single charge ), or a price that may simply be too high for many users.

But after summarizing the pros and cons, AirPods still come out as a very satisfactory combination of features, performance and price, even if they don't represent the ultimate experience for true audiophiles.
