Alongside the new iPhone 14 and Apple Watch, Apple introduced the long-awaited 2nd generation AirPods Pro headphones. It received quite interesting news, which again move it several steps forward. The basis of the new series is the brand new Apple H2 chipset. The latter is directly responsible for most of the improvements in the form of a better mode of active noise cancellation, permeability mode or overall sound quality. In this regard, we must also definitely not forget to mention the arrival of touch control, the integration of the speaker into the wireless charging case or the U1 chip for precise searching with the help of Find.

But it doesn't end there. AirPods Pro of the 2nd generation have also significantly improved in terms of battery life, received an additional XS-sized ear tip or even a loop for attaching the case. But as the users themselves began to point out, the new generation also brings with it a rather interesting novelty. Apple offers the option of free engraving on its AirPods Pro 2nd generation, as well as on its other headphones. For example, you can engrave your name, emoticons and many others on the case. The choice is simply yours. You can even have Memoji engraved abroad. However, what is special this year is that when you pair or connect AirPods Pro 2, the engraving will be displayed directly on the preview on your iPhone. How is that even possible?

View engraving in iOS

As we mentioned above, if you order the new AirPods Pro 2nd generation from Apple and get free engraving on their charging case, then you'll not only see it physically when you look at the case itself, but also digitally within iOS. You can see how it looks in real life on the tweet from @PezRadar attached below. But the question is how such a thing is actually possible. This is because Apple did not mention this news at all during the presentation of the new generation, and it was only really talked about after the headphones entered the market - although the possibility of engraving is also mentioned on the official page about AirPods Pro 2.

Unfortunately, there is no official explanation for this, so we can only guess how it actually works. In a way, though, it's fairly clear. Since the engraving is added by Apple itself when ordering through the Apple Store Online, all you have to do is assign a specific theme to a given model of AirPods, which iOS can then automatically identify and display the correct version accordingly. Just like iPhones, iPads, Macs and other products, each AirPods has its own unique serial number. Logically, linking the serial number together with specific engraving appears as a possible solution.

Most likely, this news arrived quietly together with the iOS 16 operating system. However, the question is whether this option will remain exclusive to AirPods Pro, or whether Apple will extend it to other models with the arrival of the next generations. However, we will have to wait for some Friday for these answers.
