For quite some time now, there have been rumors about the arrival of the second generation of the popular AirPods Pro headphones. Speculation about these among apple players began already in 2020, when the respected analyst Ming-Chi Kuo started talking about the arrival of a successor. Almost immediately, people focused primarily on potential news and other changes. Although we are still several months away from their introduction, we still have a rough idea of what Apple could boast about this time.

The classic AirPods and the Pro model are hugely popular. Although they do not offer the best sound, they benefit mainly from their excellent connection with the apple ecosystem. In the case of AirPods Pro, Apple fans also highlight the active suppression of ambient noise and the transparency mode, which, on the other hand, mixes sound from the surroundings into the headphones so that you don't miss anything. But what news will the expected second generation bring and what would we most like to see?

Design

A completely fundamental change could be a newer design, which may affect not only the charging case, but also the headphones themselves. In connection with the aforementioned charging case, Apple is expected to make it slightly smaller. In principle, however, it will be about changes in the order of millimeters, which, of course, will not make such a fundamental difference. It's a bit more interesting in the case of the headphones themselves. According to some sources, Apple is going to remove their foot and therefore approach the design of, for example, the Beats Studio Buds model. But such a change would also bring with it a minor problem. Currently, the feet are used to control playback and to switch between modes. Simply press them lightly and everything will be solved for us without having to take the phone out of our pocket. By removing the legs, we would lose these options. On the other hand, Apple could solve this ailment by supporting gestures. After all, this is evidenced by one of the patents, according to which the headphones should be able to detect the movement of hands in their vicinity. However, this change seems rather unlikely for now.

But what could make Apple fans very happy would be the integration of the speaker into the charging case. Of course, it would not serve as a classic speaker for playing music, but would play a relatively essential role for the Find my network. So if the apple picker lost his case, he could simply play a sound on it and find it better. However, a number of questions still hang over this news.

New features and changes

Apple users have been debating potential news and changes since 2020. In any case, there is quite often talk of better battery life, improvements to the active ambient noise suppression (ANC) mode, and the arrival of relatively interesting sensors. These should be combined with exercise and a healthy lifestyle, where they could specifically be used to monitor blood oxygenation and heart rate. After all, the aforementioned analyst Ming-Chi Kuo had already predicted something similar. According to him, the AirPods Pro 2 headphones are to receive innovative news related to the monitoring of the user's health. Support for lossless audio transmission thanks to the use of optical audio transmission is also often mentioned, which was also confirmed by one of the earlier patents.

In addition, some leaks and speculations talk about the arrival of other sensors, which should apparently measure body temperature. Although not long ago there was talk that we simply would not see this news, at the beginning of this week the situation changed again. Another source confirmed the arrival of sensors for measuring not only heart rate, but also body temperature. By the way, it's not even futuristic technology. The Earbuds 3 Pro headphones from the Honor brand have the same option.

Availability and price

In the end, it is still a question of when Apple will actually show off the new AirPods Pro 2. The very first speculations talked about the fact that their presentation will take place in 2021, but this was not confirmed in the end. Current speculation mentions the 2nd or 3rd quarter of this year. If this information is true, then we can count on the fact that the Cupertino giant will reveal the headphones to us alongside the new iPhone 14 in September. As for the price, it should be the same as the current model, i.e. 7290 CZK.

It will also be interesting to see if Apple makes the same mistake that had a direct impact on the failure of AirPods 3. Alongside them, it continues to sell the previous AirPods 2 at a cheaper price, which makes people prefer to resort to the cheaper variant, since the aforementioned third generation is so much more does not bring any major news. So the question is whether the first generation will remain on sale alongside the AirPods Pro 2.
