It's completely normal that one of the headphones sometimes won't connect. As a rule, this happens in a city that is disturbed by all kinds of signals. My sister-in-law has airpods 2, but she only plays one earpiece at a time, depending on which one is being used. If you put both in your ears, you can hear that they are both connected, but still only one plays, as a rule, the right one, the left one only plays when the right one is in the case.

The phone has the latest version of iOS installed and the device has been restarted. We tried to remove the headphones several times. in that case, I would still try to connect other AirPods to the phone. If they behave like the ones you mentioned, resetting the iPhone to factory settings might help, but before that you need to back it up via iCloud or to a computer. If that doesn't help, the only way is probably to take the phone in for service.

Thank you for answer. We tried other AirPods on the phone and it behaves the same, i.e. the error is in the phone. We'll try a factory reset and then possibly a service, but in this covid era it's a bit complicated and we don't want to send the phone by post, rather do diagnostics while we wait.

I opened the charging case and the diode that normally glows green now didn't feel at all. I put the case on the charger. About an hour and a half later, I connected the headphones to my mobile phone and it showed me that the case was 98% charged. Hello, I am currently dealing with the same problem. I found out that the right earpiece has a bad contact, so I covered it with a piece of tissue for a test and it doesn't happen anymore (yet).
