We have been waiting for them for over three years, when we had a lot of rumors here, but they did not come true. Now another one is getting stronger and it looks like we're in for a real treat. Based on what is already known about the 2nd generation of these hi-fi headphones, we may not even need to wait.

It was quite unexpected when Apple introduced its first over-the-ear headphones in December 2020. He showed something different with them than what we were normally used to from the market. It's typical Apple when they take a well-known thing and give it a design that puts many on their ass. What about the fact that they were (and still are) extra expensive and heavy.

There was speculation about the successor earlier, as well as about a sportier, lighter or, on the contrary, even more equipped version. However, we should really wait, this year (probably in the fall), when their revised version should be released. So it's quite possible that there won't be a 2nd generation at all, just like they didn't get the next generation of AirPods Pro 2 last September. But Apple can still follow the situation between the first and second AirPods, when their 2nd generation came after all and brought virtually only a chip for faster pairing and better use of Siri.

If the new AirPods Max do arrive, it is certain that they will have a USB-C port instead of Lightning. It's half and half with new colors, where it would only be a matter of making the headphones more attractive and simply looking more interesting. Well, that's really all. Apparently, they are also not supposed to be equipped with the new H2 chip, which we already know from the 2nd generation AirPods, and which ensures adaptive sound, which is a combination of ANC, personalized volume adjustment based on your surroundings and automatic muting based on speech recognition, i.e. that when you talk, the headphones will automatically mute.

Then changing the design might not be entirely wise. Apple will save significantly on the same thing, when it will not have to move with setting up machines and creating new programs just to drop a few grams of weight and save a few grams of aluminum. The case, which is not only impractical but also quite embarrassing, would certainly also deserve a fundamental redesign. Perhaps customers would be more pleased with its change than with the hardware innovations of the headphones themselves.
