The iPhone 7 is far from being defined by this feature, but so far the most talked about in connection with it is the absence of a classic 3,5 mm jack for connecting headphones. So, at the appropriate point in Wednesday's presentation, Apple tried to focus on the arrival of the new rather than the departure of the old: wireless headphones.

Packing new iPhones it will include classic EarPods headphones with a Lightning connector and a converter from Lightning to 3,5 mm jack. Although there will be more cables than usual, Apple wants to encourage their elimination. Phil Schiller spent a significant part of his presence on stage talking about the wireless version of EarPods, the new AirPods headphones.

On the outside, they actually look like the well-known basic Apple headphones, only missing something (a cable). However, they hide quite a few interesting components in their body and, rather funnyly sticking out of their ears, legs. The main one is, of course, the wireless chip, designated W1, which Apple made itself and employed to provide the connection and process the sound.

Combined with accelerometers and optical sensors built into the earphones, the W1 can recognize when the user puts the earphone in his ear, when he takes it out, when he is on the phone with someone and when he wants to listen to music. Tapping the handset activates Siri. Both earphones are functionally the same, so there is no need to pull out e.g. only the left and not the right earphone to interrupt playback, etc.

In the classic Apple spirit of a simple user experience with sophisticated technologies, the method of connecting the headphones to the source of data to be converted into sound is also the same. The given device will offer one-click pairing automatically after opening the headphone box near it. This applies to iOS devices, Apple Watch, and computers. Even after pairing with one, you can then easily switch to connecting to another.

In addition to pairing and carrying, the headphone box also has a role in charging. At once, it is able to transfer enough energy to the AirPods for 5 hours of listening and contains a built-in battery with energy corresponding to 24 hours of listening. After fifteen minutes of charging, AirPods are able to play music for 3 hours. All values apply to playback of tracks in AAC format with a data rate of 256 kb/s at half the maximum possible volume.

AirPods should be compatible with all Apple devices with iOS 10, watchOS 3 or macOS Sierra installed and will be available at the end of October for 4 crowns.

The W1 chip is also built into three new models of Beats headphones. Beats Solo 3 are a wireless version of the classic Beats headband headphones, Powerbeats3 are a hardware-free version of the sports model, and BeatsX are a completely new, wireless model of small ear buds.

For all of them, the connection menu with an Apple device will appear after turning on the headphones near the given device. Fast charging for all three will be ensured by "Fast Fuel" technology. Five minutes of charging will be enough for three hours of listening with the Solo3 headphones, two hours with the BeatsX and one hour with the Powerbeats3.

The new line of wireless Beats headphones will be available "in the fall", with BeatsX costing 4 crowns, Powerbeats199 will lighten the wallet by 3 crowns, and those interested in the Beats Solo5 will need 499 crowns.
