It has been rumored for a long time that Apple is working on the third generation of AirPods. In addition to new functions, it should also offer a revised design. An icon in the new beta version of iOS 3, which Apple released yesterday for developers and public testers, reveals how the new AirPods 13.2 should look.

This isn't the first time we've heard about AirPods 3. Already a few months ago news appeared, that the third generation of popular headphones from Apple is to undergo major changes and offer users missing functions. For example, we were talking about water resistance and, above all, the function of active noise cancellation (ANC).

According to well-known Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, AirPods 3 should arrive at the end of this year or the beginning of next year, with a completely new design that has remained largely unknown until now. However, in the new iOS 13.2 beta, Apple hides an icon that depicts AirPods in a completely different design than what is seen in the current generation. In addition, the headphones in the picture have plugs, which are practically necessary for the proper functioning of active noise cancellation.

Within the system, the icon has the code name B298 and is part of the Accessibility folder, where the settings for some special functions of the headphones, namely for the already existing Live Listen, will probably be located later.

Also of interest is that headphones very similar to the one on the icon also appeared in recently leaked photos of the alleged AirPods 3. Although the photos appeared to be more of a fake at the time, the new icon now suggests that these are most likely real images depicting the actual design the upcoming generation of AirPods.

AirPods 3 could debut this month, at the expected October conference, where Apple should present the 16″ MacBook Pro, the new generation of iPad Pro and other news. Although the products are not directly related, if Apple wants to catch the pre-Christmas shopping period, October is basically the last date.
