Both iPhones, iPads and Macs are proud of a function called AirDrop, thanks to which you can conveniently transfer files via Bluetooth and WiFi, as well as, for example, web bookmarks in Safari. This service has been with us for several long years and has not suffered from malfunctions for quite a long time. However, under certain conditions, it may happen that for some reason you do not see the necessary equipment, even though you seem to have everything set up correctly. Therefore, today we will show you how to solve the most common problems with AirDrop.

You won't break anything by updating

First of all, it should be noted that compatibility with AirDrop is offered by Macs from 2012 and later (the exception is the Mac Pro from 2012) with OS X Yosemite and later, in the case of iOS you must have at least iOS 7 installed. Even so, it may happen that in a certain version of individual operating systems, Apple could have made a mistake and AirDrop might not work correctly here. Apple comes with new patches with each version of the operating system, so make sure both devices are updated to the latest software. For iPhone and iPad, the update is done in Settings -> General -> Software Update, on a Mac, go to Apple icon -> System Preferences -> Software Update.

Try connecting to or disconnecting from the same WiFi network

Both Bluetooth and WiFi are used for AirDrop functionality, with Bluetooth connecting devices, WiFi providing faster file transfers. There would be nothing complicated about it, but you have to follow a few rules. Personal hotspot must not be activated on either device, which many users forget. Furthermore, it sometimes happens that AirDrop does not work when one device is connected to a WiFi network and the other is disconnected from it, or has connected to another network. So try both products disconnect from the WiFi network or is connect to the same one. But definitely don't turn off WiFi completely or AirDrop won't work. You prefer to control center Wi-Fi icon deactivate which will turn off the network search, but the receiver itself will be turned on.

Check individual settings

For example, if you got your phone from your parents and you have it set as a child's mode, try using it to enter the Settings -> Screen Time -> Content & Privacy Restrictions, and verify that AirDrop is not disabled. It's also a good idea to check if your reception is turned on. On iOS and iPadOS, you can do so in Settings -> General -> AirDrop, where to activate income for all or contacts only. On your Mac, open Finder, click in it AirDrop a activate reception in the same way. However, if you've turned on contacts-only reception and you've saved the person you're sending the files to, check that both parties have a written phone number and email address that's associated with that person's Apple ID.

Restart both devices

This trick is probably the most used among users of any products to solve absolutely all problems, and it can help even if AirDrop is not working. To restart your Mac and MacBook, tap on Apple icon -> Restart, iOS and iPadOS devices turn off and on or you can try them reset. On iPhone 8 and later, press and release the Volume Up button, then press and release the Volume Down button and hold the Side button until the Apple logo appears on the screen. For iPhone 7 and 7 Plus, press the volume down button and the side button at the same time until you see the Apple logo, for older models, hold the side button together with the home button.
