Taking photos is now an integral and completely self-evident activity of every iOS device. Nevertheless, the default image editing options are limited to basic adjustments. Thus, only less demanding users are satisfied. For the more advanced, who are looking for wider editing possibilities, there is, for example, AfterLight, which has been among the best-selling applications for photo editing for a long time.

AfterLight is so far the only product of the AfterLight Collective studio, thanks to which they can devote all their attention to their only child. They are doing great. The application has received over 11 (almost only positive) ratings, and overall its statistics are at an excellent level. At the same time, developers still have the opportunity to earn additional money from existing users - the application, which costs only 000 euros, also features In-App packages, and you pay an additional euro for each one. For the sake of interest, let us add that AfterLight is also available for Android.

AfterLight can already be used during photography itself, where it offers basic functions such as a grid or determining the focus point. Much more interesting is setting the parameters, which today are usually handled automatically, but the more advanced knows that the results are always much better with proper manual work. We are talking about changing the shutter speed, entering the ISO or setting the white. Controlling everything mentioned is also simple and intuitive thanks to the slider.

The key advantages of the application are only encountered when starting the editing mode, which, thanks to extensions in iOS 8, can also be accessed through individual images in Photos. Here we come across a standard adjustment option, such as contrast, saturation or vignetting, but in addition, we also find more advanced issues here - rendering highlights or shadows or setting the color rendering of both highlights, centers and shadows. The sharpening function also brings quality results. Turning is certainly useful, not only by 90 degrees, but also horizontally or vertically.

So far, we have been talking about modifications, which are usually not so obvious as a result. However, a separate chapter of the application consists of more creative options, such as the use of filters. There is a wide range of different-looking pieces to choose from, from scratches in combination with local fading to the most different-looking reflections to frames in the form of all kinds of shapes and letters. As a rule, we use the slider to specify how much the original image will overlap.

Filters that do not have the same effect on the entire photo (scratches, fading, some frames) can simply be rotated, which expands their possibilities even more. The parts of the photos that are not covered by the frame can be zoomed in and moved, while we can easily change the color or use the texture of the frame itself.

However, all textures are paid and require the purchase of a pack. We can find quite a few packages here, personally I have come across three so far, but the offer will certainly expand over time. Each one costs one euro, which in my opinion is somewhat disproportionate considering the same price for the entire application. But the nice thing is that we can test the functions of the package, so we can immediately see whether we will really enjoy the package. Of course, after trying it, you can't save the photo.

AfterLight also offers very advanced, almost professional tools, such as working with layers. Thanks to this, for example, one image can be used as the first layer, another image as the second, and then you can choose from several overlay options - at first glance, it seems that they are all familiar from Photoshop. Even the crop is not cheated and offers a wide range of ratios.

Although the above list of functions is not absolute, I hope I managed to mention the essentials that AfterLight offers. In my experience, this is a quality editor with superior features at a solid price. I would personally recommend it to any (even moderate) photo enthusiast. However, keep in mind that it is not as versatile and professional a tool as is available on a personal computer.
