Another application from one of the big players made it to the Mac App Store. This time it's Adobe's Lightroom CC, which will rank alongside Photoshop Elements 2019.

You can find Lightroom in the Mac App Store as a free download. Of course, you'll need a subscription to unlock the full version. Otherwise, you have a trial period of only seven days. The subscription itself costs 269 CZK (12,09 EUR) per month or 3 CZK (350 EUR) per year.

Adobe thus joins the big names that were promised at the macOS Mojave Keynote. These include, for example, the Transmit file manager from Panic studio, the popular BBEdit editor from Bare Bones, or the entire Microsoft Office suite.

In Adobe as well they plan to release a full-fledged Photoshop for the iPad with synchronization with desktop computers. The set of tools is thus slowly expanding also on the tablet platform.

Lightroom, on the other hand, occupies the space vacated by the excellent Aperture editor. It left Apple itself years ago, just like the popular iPhoto, which was part of the iLife package. However, users were relegated to using the system Photos app. Apple itself recommended tools from Adobe to demanding users.

Customers now have two choices: use Lightroom from the Mac App Store or download the version from Creative Cloud. Subscriptions are no different, and the difference is access and data synchronization. The version from the Mac App Store is updated through this store, while the application downloaded through the Creative Cloud manager relies on this service. Both packages include up to 1 TB of cloud storage for photos, which you can also access from Adobe applications on the iOS platform.

Lightroom and others rely more on subscriptions

Most new apps in the Mac App Store are starting to rely on subscriptions. It doesn't necessarily have to be Adobe or Microsoft Office 365, but this model has also been adopted by other returnees. For example, BBEdit now offers a 30-day trial and then $3,99 per month or $39,99 per year. Meanwhile, Bare Bones offers an individual license on its website for $40 with no subscription required.

It seems that the developers have listened to Apple's wishes and returned to the Mac App Store, but instead of one-time payments, they prefer regularly renewing subscriptions and the certainty of returns.
