Just ten days before the launch of Apple Music, it looked like the work of such big names as Adele, Arctic Monkeys, The Prodigy, Marilyn Manson, The National, Arcade Fire, Bon Iver and more would not be available on the new Apple Music streaming service. The umbrella organization for their recording studios and publishers, Merlin Network, Beggars Group, that is did not accept the terms offered by Apple, i.e. a three-month trial period during which content creators would not be paid.

On Sunday, however, joining many independent record labels, Taylor Swift published her open letter, in which he criticizes these conditions. Eddy Cue immediately responded to this and announced that Apple to artists will pay even three months, which will be free for users. Since Merlin and Beggars Group no longer have a reason not to cooperate with Apple Music, they signed a contract.

The director of Merlin sent out a letter to its twenty thousand members beginning with the words (he obtained the complete wording of the letter Billboard, you will find it <a href="https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/1932/8043/files/200721_ODSTOUPENI_BEZ_UDANI_DUVODU__EN.pdf?v=1595428404" data-gt-href-en="https://en.notsofunnyany.com/">here</a>):

Dear Merlin Member,
I'm pleased to announce that Apple has decided to pay for all Apple Music usage during the free trial period on a per-play basis and has also adjusted several other terms that members have communicated directly with Apple. We are happy to support the contract with these changes.

However, it is true that Apple has contracts signed with individual members, on which specific conditions depend. In the case of Apple Music, direct cooperation with the Merlin Network is established for the first time, with both parties open to expanding it in the future.

Apple Music has now also supported the Worldwide Independent Network, a worldwide community of independent recording studios and publishers that includes many national independent associations. One of them is the American Association of Independent Music (A2IM), which was critical of Apple Music just a few days ago.

PIAS Recordings, a group of Belgian independent record companies, has also publicly commented on the changes to the terms. Its CEO, Adrian Pope, mentioned that although it may seem that the main reason for Apple's change of terms was Taylor Swift's open letter, in fact PIAS Recordings and many others had previously been negotiating with the American giant for several weeks. Furthermore, Pope expressed his satisfaction with the new conditions, which he says are really beneficial for independent recording studios and artists, who, among other things, at least in the case of PIAS members, are ensured a "fair playing field for all".

This confirms that Apple Music will not be deprived of the work of many well-known artists compared to many other streaming services. In addition, however, content that will be exclusive to the Apple service is starting to appear. His first example is Pharrell's new song, Freedom. A part of it can already be heard in one of the ads on Apple Music, and Pharell shared a few more seconds today on Twitter and Facebook via a video that contains the information that the entire song will be available exclusively on Apple Music. In addition, there is also speculation that Kanye West's new album, SWISH, will not be exclusive to Apple Music, but the latest information suggests that it will not be released until the fall.
