The name of the new generation of Samsung watches has been speculated for quite some time. The previous generation was called the Galaxy Watch4 and Watch4 Classic, while this year the Classic model did not arrive, but was replaced by the Watch5 Pro model. And Samsung has a good explanation for that, but it could be a problem for Apple.

There is no need to argue that the world of technology companies is inspired by Apple's nomenclature more often than it should be. However, it was Apple that launched the Pro models for years, and now we could be expecting an Apple Watch Pro model from them. But in contrast with Samsung, it will look silly, because he was the first to introduce a watch with this moniker. But why did he do that?

Secondarily, it is certainly to make Apple burn the pond with the name, although this does not prevent it from adding the same designation to its Apple Watch. Samsung states that the Galaxy Watch5 Pro is intended for elite athletes and active people, i.e. professionals to some extent. After all, models from the Pro Apple stable are also intended for demanding users.

The Galaxy Watch5 Pro has therefore lost the mechanical bezel that was just featured on the Watch4 Classic model, and which for that reason remains in the company's offer. After all, it will not age significantly, because the chipset used is the same, the operating system will also receive its new features, and it will therefore lose mainly on the materials used. Samsung didn't replace the rotating bezel with anything, it just added an overlap of material here to make the display more protected. However, it's just a design element that he could have easily forgiven.

Titanium and sapphire

Samsung replaced Gorilla Glass with sapphire in its Galaxy Watch5 and Watch5 Pro. The basic series has a hardness of 8 on the Mohs scale, the Pro model has a hardness of 9. Compared to Apple, it is such a clear nomenclature that says more than any Ceramic Shield Apple designation. As for the case material, the basic series is aluminum, but the Pro models are newly made of titanium, with no choice. However, Apple already has many years of experience with titanium and offers it in certain variants of the Apple Watch.

Titanium is not only stronger than aluminum, but also stronger than steel, and its main advantage is lower weight. Although the question is why manufacturers have to reach for such premium and expensive materials, when a little carbon and resin would be enough, which would make the resistance even higher and the price even lower for the customer, but so be it.

Three times more than Apple

If we then objected that the Apple Watch Series 7 already have a sufficiently durable glass, and that they can also be found in titanium, then Samsung heard all the complaints of smart watch users that bother them most often. Yes, it's stamina. This has improved not only with the Galaxy Watch5, but is presented especially with the Galaxy Watch5 Pro, because this is where it can be seen the most. Samsung packed a 590mAh battery into its watch, which should keep it alive for 3 days. Even this can be expected with modest use of a smart watch, but you can't get 24 hours of tracking with the GPS on. Even lower-end Garmins can have problems with this.

It is a clear gauntlet thrown into the ring, the reaction of which will now be impatiently awaited from Apple. If we only see his mandatory daily endurance again, he will be clearly criticized for not increasing it when we know it is possible. The Galaxy Watch5 starts at 7 CZK for the 499 mm version, and 40 CZK for the 44 mm case. Versions with LTE are also available. The 8mm Galaxy Watch199 Pro costs CZK 45, the version with LTE costs CZK 5. Pre-orders are already going, and you'll get the Galaxy Buds Live TWS headphones to go with them.
