When Apple introduced the first iPhone in 2007, it probably had no idea what it would cause. Since then, smartphones have replaced many single-purpose devices where others are in the spotlight. iPhones can do a lot these days, and you probably know about many of these features, but here's a list of the ones you might have missed. This list is made with iPhone 15 Pro Max and iOS 17.2.

Setting the behavior of the always-on display

When Apple introduced the iPhone 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max, it taught them, thanks to the adaptive refresh rate, the so-called Always On display, which until then was the domain of only the Apple Watch and, of course, Android devices. Now even the iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max can do it, but you can customize its behavior if you want. If you are used to the way it looks, for example, on Android, it can be quite distracting. So go to Settings -> Display and brightness -> Permanently on display and choose here whether you want to display wallpaper, notifications, and most importantly, whether you want to use it at all.

Renaming iPhone

Your iPhone is probably named according to your Apple ID name, so in my case it would be Adam - iPhone. This is how the device will be displayed to you in the Find network, but also to anyone who wants to send you something via AirDrop or who wants to connect to your hotspot. At the same time, renaming is easy and clearly distinguishes your device. Just go to Settings -> In general -> Information and tap the field at the top Name.

Turn off 5G

Even if the domestic operators are trying their best, it is still not quite the same with 5G coverage. In addition, if you move in locations where your signal is constantly switching, then not only does it eat up the battery, but you can't actually do anything during the switching. However, you can limit 5G. IN Settings click on Mobile data, further on Data options and select Voice and data. Here you already have a choice of three options for how you want your iPhone to behave.

Lens correction

The wider the camera, the more potential it has to erase the pages, especially on cell phones that simply don't have the capabilities of mature tech. They usually help themselves with software loops. But since it is an intervention in the photo, not everyone may like it, and therefore this option is optional. When you visit the Settings -> Camera and scroll down, you will find an option here Lens correction. When turned on, this feature corrects lens distortion for the front and ultra-wide cameras.

Mixing tracks in the Music app

When listening to content in the Music app, it was fairly common for one track to end, be silent, and start another. IN Settings -> Hudba but you can turn on the function Mixing tracks, where you can also specify a time interval between 1 and 12 s (4 to 5 s seems ideal). This gives you a more continuous music experience when you're not listening to silence.

Diary application settings

With iOS 17.2, a new Diary application was added. You probably found that out and maybe even tried it, but did you know that you can also set it up? The Diary section is new in the Settings, and you can decide in it whether you want to skip the diary suggestions and start writing your post right away, whether you want to lock the diary additionally, or you can define a schedule for sending notifications here so you don't forget to add a new entry.

Hide the Search menu from the desktop

The iOS 17 update brought a lot of new features, one of which was that instead of the number of pages, the Search option appears on your desktop. But you can call it up by just sliding your finger down the display, so it's a little pointless here. However, if you want dot symbols showing which side of the screen you are currently on, you can. You can find the change in Settings -> Desktop and application library, where just tick off Display on desktop.
