We no longer see mobile phones as just a device for communication. It's a music player, a camera, a web browser, a calculator, a game console, etc. However, because communication is still important, Apple continues to push the functionality of its Messages app further. And in iOS 16, there will be some really useful news waiting for us.

That Apple cares about News proves in every update of its iOS mobile operating system. In iOS 15, we saw the feature Strengthened with you, where links, images and other content that someone shares with you via Messages will appear in the respective application in a new dedicated section. Added to this were Photo Collections, which began to appear as a collage or a neat stack of images that can be scrolled through. There were also new Memoji. With iOS 16, however, Apple goes a little further.

shareplay

The main novelty of iOS 15 was the SharePlay function, although it did not come directly with the main update, but we had to wait a little longer for it. During FaceTim, you can watch series and movies, listen to music or share the screen together with your contacts. According to Apple, this is a new way to enjoy shared experiences with family or friends regardless of physical distance. Now SharePlay will also reach News.

The advantage is that whatever you're watching or listening to in SharePlay, Messages will give you a place to chat about it if you don't want to or can't discuss it by voice. Of course, playback is still synchronous thanks to the sharing of controls.

Greater cooperation

In iOS 16, you will be able to share notes, presentations, reminders, or even panel groups in Safari in Messages (which will also be a new feature in iOS 16). You will immediately start working with the given contact on the given issue. Apple adds to this that you can better follow updates of shared projects in the message thread and easily communicate with colleagues directly in the application where you share content.

Additional adjustments

Even if Apple already pushes sending scheduling into at least the Mail application in the new systems, Messages will have to wait a little longer. Even so, they are getting some major improvements with regards to messaging. Newly, we will be able to additionally edit the message that has just been sent, if we find an error in it, or if we want to supplement it, but its sending can also be canceled completely. Of course, this also comes in handy if you accidentally send a message to another contact, or only after sending it do you realize that you'd rather keep what it says to yourself.

However, it will not be possible to do this at any time, because it will be possible to modify the sent message or cancel its sending only during the next 15 minutes. The third new feature here is the option to mark a message as unread when you don't have time to reply to it, but at the same time you have already read it and don't want to forget it.

Dictation

Apple has also greatly improved dictation, which should be available across the system, including in Messages. It will automatically fill in commas, periods and question marks, it will also recognize emoticons, when you just say "smiling emoticon" when dictating. But as you can imagine, it has its limitations. These options are only supported in English (Australia, India, Canada, UK, US), French (France), Japanese (Japan), Cantonese (Hong Kong), German (Germany), Standard Chinese (Mainland China, Taiwan) and Spanish (Mexico, Spain, USA). In the case of emoticon recognition, you must have at least an iPhone with an A12 Bionic chip. And then there is combining dictation and typing on the keyboard, where you can freely switch between the two options.

Family sharing

It's not so much a new feature of Messages as the Family Sharing function, which integrates Messages better in iOS 16. If the parent sets some screen time limits for the child, and the child wants to extend them, he can only request it in the form of a message. The parent then easily accepts it and extends the time, or on the contrary rejects it.

Memoji

This time too, the Memoji offer is growing. In this way, you will be able to express your personality with a slightly more comprehensive palette of customization, which includes more variants of nose shapes, headgear or hairstyles with a more natural texture and waviness of hair. But there are also new stickers of Memoji poses, which you can use to give yourself a certain personality.
