Yes, Apple is still stubbornly pushing Lightning for the iPhone, but it is no longer the case for other products. USB-C has been on MacBooks since 2015, and now they're on every Mac, whether it's a MacBook Pro or a Mac Studio. Other devices with a USB-C port include the iPad Pro, which received it already in 2018, the iPad Air from 2020, the iPad mini 6th generation, Studio Display or Pro Display XDR. But there are still a few core products that keep Lightning.

To be complete, Apple also offers USB-C on the Magic Keyboard for iPad, on the Beats Flex or charging cases for Beats Studio Buds and Beats Fit Pro. However, which products, excluding the iPhone of course, are "at risk" of having to switch to USB-C in the foreseeable future due to EU regulations?

Basic iPad

Among tablets, the 10,2" iPad is exotic. It is the only one that retains Lightning, otherwise the entire portfolio has already switched to USB-C. Here, Apple still benefits from the old design with the Areas button under the display, which you practically don't have to reach for, because the performance boost happens inside. Although this is an entry-level model in the world of Apple tablets, it is still really powerful and useful. However, if Apple changed its design along the lines of the iPad Air, the question is whether these models would not cannibalize each other. Rather, it looks like when D-Day rolls around, we'll say goodbye to the basic iPad, with Apple dropping a generation of the iPad Air instead.

Apple Pencil 1rd generation

Since we've had a bite of the iPad, the Apple Pencil accessory is also intended for it. But the first generation was a bit strange, because it is charged through the Lightning connector, which plugs into the iPad. Changing it to USB-C is highly unlikely. But if Apple cuts the basic iPad, the first generation of the pencil will probably follow suit. In order for the basic model to support its 2nd generation, Apple would have to give it the ability to charge the pencil wirelessly, which is already a major intervention in its internal layout, and it probably won't want that. So if it stays in this form for another year, it will still only support the 1st generation Apple Pencil.

AirPods

Apple has already switched from USB to USB-C in the case of its AirPods cable, but its other end is still terminated with Lightning for charging AirPods and AirPods Max cases. However, the newer generations of AirPods already allow for wireless charging of their case, and it is therefore a question whether Apple will allow the user to still charge them classically via a cable, i.e. with USB-C, or just purely wirelessly. After all, the iPhone is also being speculated about. He could resort to USB-C as early as the introduction of the 2nd generation AirPods Pro this fall, but also only with the introduction of the USB-C iPhone.

Peripherals - keyboard, mouse, trackpad

The entire trio of Apple peripherals, i.e. Magic Keyboard (in all variants), Magic Mouse and Magic Trackpad are delivered with a USB-C / Lightning cable in the package. If only because the keyboard for the iPad also contains USB-C, the change could be the least painful for this Apple accessory. In addition, there would be room to redesign the charging connector of the Magic Mouse, which is senselessly located on the bottom of the mouse, so you cannot use it when charging.

MagSafe battery

You won't find a cable in the MagSafe Battery package, but you can charge it with the same one as the iPhone, i.e. Lightning. Of course, this accessory is directly intended to be present with your iPhone, and therefore now, if Apple gave it USB-C, it would be pure stupidity. So you would have to have two different cables to charge both on the road, now one is enough. But it is certain that if the iPhone generation comes with USB-C, Apple will have to react and come with a USB-C MagSafe battery. But he can sell both at the same time.

Remote control for Apple TV

He's only been with us for a little over a year, and even then he's the most outdated in this entire selection. Not because it is offered with Lightning, but because the included cable is still only with simple USB, when Apple already gives USB-C elsewhere. It's simply a mess. Now that Apple has come up with USB-C for iPads, it would be wise for it to step back elsewhere, just to accommodate its customers, not because some EU is ordering it to. Anyway, we'll see how he copes with it, he has quite a lot of time to do nothing for now.
