The fact that Apple introduced new operating systems two days ago probably did not escape any apple enthusiast. The Californian giant specifically presented iOS and iPadOS 14, macOS 11 Big Sur, watchOS 7 and tvOS 14. These new operating systems naturally include new functions. If you are one of the brave ones who have already set up new operating systems, you have probably encountered the fact that some of the new functions do not work as you expected. The truth is that you have to manually activate some of the new features before you want to use them - they are often disabled by default. So let's get straight to the point.

Picture-in-picture - iOS and iPadOS 14

One of the new features of the iOS and iPadOS 14 operating systems is Picture in Picture. Most of you may know this feature from macOS, where it is already available some Friday. Simply what this feature does is that it can display a video in a separate small window in the foreground of various applications. This means that you can start a movie and work at the same time, thanks to the use of Picture in Picture, where the movie or video is always displayed in the foreground. In the window of the Picture-in-Picture function, you can of course pause/start the movie or rewind it. If you want to use this function, it is necessary to go to Settings -> General -> Picture in Picture, where tick possibility Automatic picture in picture. After that, picture-in-picture will automatically turn on after you start a video or movie somewhere, and then move to the home screen with a gesture. It should be noted that in some cases you need to go home from full screen mode. Picture-in-picture doesn't work on YouTube because YouTube doesn't support it on iOS and iPadOS 14 yet.

Back Tap - iOS and iPadOS 14

As part of iOS and iPadOS 14, we also saw new Accessibility features. This section in Settings is primarily intended for people with disabilities in some way. They will find various functions in it, thanks to which they can work better and more easily in the system. A brand new feature that's new to Accessibility is Back Tap. This feature, when activated, will make sure that when you double or triple tap the back (back) of your device, some action will be taken. There are classic actions to choose from, such as taking a screenshot or lowering the volume, but there is also the Accessibility function or the activation of Shortcuts. If you want to activate and set this function, you must go to Settings -> Accessibility -> Touch, where to get off all the way down and move to the section Tap on the back. Here you can then choose the actions that will be carried out after double tap, or after Triple tap.

Audio Recognition - iOS and iPadOS 14

Another great feature that has become part of the Accessibility section in iOS and iPadOS 14 is Sound Recognition. After enabling this feature, you can set your iPhone to notify you when it detects a sound. Of course, this is especially useful for deaf iPhone users, when the Apple phone can in certain cases inform them of a sound with vibrations. For example, there is an option to recognize a crying baby, a fire alarm, a siren and many others. If you are one of the users who have worse or no hearing, then you activate this function in Settings -> Accessibility -> Sound recognition. Here, the switch function is sufficient activate, and then go to the section sounds, where you can simply use the switches to set which sounds the iPhone should recognize.

Battery Information - macOS 11 Big Sur

In this case, it's not so much about activating a feature, but on the other hand, it's definitely useful to know where the battery information is located on your Mac. The new macOS 11 Big Sur includes a new preferences section called Battery (for now just Battery). In this section you will find complete information about the battery inside your MacBook. Here you will find graphs that inform you about how you are charging the battery, but there are also advanced options, for example for (de)activating Optimized charging or automatic graphics switching. In addition, you can view the condition of your battery here, just like on the iPhone, which is definitely useful if you want to make sure that the battery in your MacBook is getting old. In this case, you need to tap on the top left of your macOS device icon , and then selected an option from the menu System Preferences… A window will open where you simply enter the section with the name Battery to move. Here you can also switch via menu, which is located left. You can find the condition of the battery in the section Battery, where at the bottom right click on Battery health…

Hand washing - watchOS 7

We have gradually reached watchOS 7 as part of the new functions that you have to activate before using them in new operating systems. While watching the WWDC20 conference, you may have noticed that the watchOS 7 operating system also includes hand washing detection. This means that your Apple Watch can use the movement and sound of the water to detect that you are washing your hands. After detection, a 20-second countdown will appear on the screen, which is the time you should wash your hands. If you've installed watchOS 7 and wanted to try out the feature, you've probably found that the feature doesn't work. It actually works, but it's just disabled. In this case, on your Apple Watch, move to Settings, where you then go down for something below, until you hit the section handwashing (Washing hands), which you click on. Here then it is enough activate function deduction, optionally also an option Haptics.

Sleep tracking - watchOS 7

The last feature you need to activate before using it is Sleep Tracking. This has finally become part of the watchOS 7 operating system, which means that it will not be a feature exclusively for the Apple Watch Series 6. But before you can have your sleep monitored, it is necessary that you set up the entire application. If you go to the Sleep app on your Apple Watch, the app simply won't let you go. In this case it is necessary that you on your iPhone, with which your Apple Watch is paired, have moved to the app Health. Here, then move to the section at the bottom right browsing, where finally click the option Sleep and set the monitoring according to your needs.
