It is no secret that Apple is working on the development of its own 5G modem, from which it could benefit enormously. This is because it is a relatively essential component of modern phones. At the moment, however, smartphone manufacturers are not self-sufficient in this regard - only Samsung and Huawei can produce such modems - which is why the Cupertino giant has to rely on Qualcomm. We already talked about the benefits of own 5G modem in our earlier article. At the same time, however, there are already mentions that this component could come to MacBooks, for example, and thus generally support 5G connectivity in the Apple portfolio. What use would the technology find in the world of laptops?

Although we may not realize it at the moment, the transition to 5G is a rather fundamental thing that moves the speed and stability of mobile connections forward by leaps and bounds. Although it is not so obvious for the time being for simple reasons. First of all, it is necessary to have a solid 5G network, which will still take some Fridays, and a suitable tariff, which in the best case will offer unlimited data with unlimited speed. And exactly this duo is still missing in the Czech Republic, which is why only a few people will enjoy the full potential of 5G. Over the years, we have become accustomed to being online practically all the time with mobile phones, and wherever we are, we have the opportunity to contact our loved ones, search for information or have fun with games and multimedia, for example. But computers work exactly the same way.

MacBooks with 5G

So if we want to connect to the Internet on our Apple laptops, we can use two ways to do so – tethering (using a mobile hotspot) and traditional (wireless) connection (Ethernet and Wi-Fi). When traveling, the device must therefore rely on these options, without which it simply cannot do. Apple's own 5G modem could radically change this situation and move MacBooks several levels forward. Many professionals do their work directly on portable Macs, where they do the vast majority of work, but without a connection they cannot, for example, pass it on.

In any case, technology is constantly moving forward, which is why it is only a matter of time before 5G appears in Apple laptops as well. In that case, the implementation could look relatively simple. Several sources talk about the arrival of eSIM support, which in this case would be used for the 5G connection itself. On the other hand, it probably won't be the easiest even for operators. No one can say in advance whether Apple will bet on the approach known from iPads or the Apple Watch. In the first case, the user would have to purchase another tariff, which he would use when working on a Mac, while in the second case, it would be a form of "mirroring" of one number. However, only T-Mobile can deal with this in our region.
