Apple introduced the first 5G phone already with the iPhone 12, and now the iPhone 13 also supports this new generation network. In any case, manufacturers of other brands are also counting on 5G, which no longer add support for this network only to their top models. Compared to November last year, the coverage of the Czech Republic with this signal is also starting to improve.

Since we have 4G/LTE here, 5G is not yet vital for the average user. Of course, there is a difference, but someone who wants to use such a connection only to browse the Internet is not very familiar with it. This only becomes apparent when playing MMORPG games and those of a similar genre that depend on the connection. The main thing will come with the future tense.

5g

The main benefit here will be in the corporate sphere in the case of increasing the efficiency of work in business applications, but also when using augmented and virtual reality. He sees considerable potential in this, not only for Meta, but also for other manufacturers, while we could soon expect from Apple its headset working with virtual reality or glasses, which, on the other hand, will rely on augmented reality. And this reality should excite ordinary users as well. However, in order to fully utilize its potential, they will need fast mobile internet, which the 5G network will give them.

Current situation

As for the colored parts of the republic, red clearly predominates here Vodafone. Compared to November, when we are talking about the situation with 5G coverage in our country they wrote last time, growth can be seen. Individual red areas have spread not only around Prague and Brno, but also Olomouc, Pardubice or Pilsen. The coverage of Hradec Králové was added completely new. O2 on the contrary, it does not spread too much across the Czech Republic and instead expands the range of places already covered. It can be seen nicely in the surroundings of Prague, where uniform 5G coverage extends along the highway to Brno to Benešov. The coverage around Prostějov also got stronger.

A somewhat strange situation is with T-Mobile. It is also growing (e.g. between Olomouc and Brno), but the places it usually covers may not make much sense to many. This is because it often covers uninhabited areas, although even in cities it makes a little effort. The present map screens are based directly on the coverage maps of individual operators, which are available on their websites. The first map is always from November 11, 2021, the second shows the situation as of January 6, 2022.
