We are currently only a few weeks away from the introduction of new operating systems led by iOS 16. Specifically, we will see iOS 16 and other new systems already on June 6, at the WWDC22 developer conference. Immediately after the launch, these systems are expected to be available for download to all developers, just like in previous years. As for the public release, we will usually see that sometime towards the end of the year. Currently, various information and leaks about iOS 16 are already appearing, and therefore together in this article we will look at 5 changes and novelties that (most likely) we will see in this new system.

Compatible devices

Apple tries to support all its devices for as long as possible. As for iOS 15, you can currently install this version of the system on iPhone 6s (Plus) or iPhone SE of the first generation, which are devices that are almost seven and six years old, respectively - you can only dream of such long support from competing manufacturers. But the truth is that iOS 15 may no longer work perfectly on the oldest devices, so even from this point of view it can be assumed that you simply cannot install iOS 16 on the first generation iPhone 6s (Plus) and SE. The oldest iPhone on which it will be possible to install future iOS will be the iPhone 7.

InfoShack widgets

With the arrival of the iOS 14 operating system, we saw a significant redesign of the home page, when the application library was added and, most importantly, the widgets were redesigned. These have now become significantly more modern and simpler, in addition to this, we can also add them to individual pages between the application icons, so we can access them from anywhere. But the truth is that users somehow complain about the lack of widget interactivity. In iOS 16, we should see a brand new type of widget, which Apple currently has an internal name of InfoShack. These are large widgets that have several smaller widgets inside them. Best of all, these widgets should become much more interactive, something we've been wanting for a few years now.

Quick actions

In conjunction with iOS 16, there is now also talk of some kind of quick actions. Some of you might argue that quick actions are already available in some form right now, thanks to the native Shortcuts app. But the truth is that the new quick actions should be even faster, since we will be able to display them directly on the home screen. However, it should not be a replacement for the two buttons at the bottom for opening the camera or turning on the flashlight, but some kind of notification that will be displayed based on different states. For example, you will be able to have a quick action for quick navigation home, turning on the alarm clock, starting to play music after getting into the car, etc. I think that this would definitely be welcomed by everyone, as all these quick actions should be automatic.

Improvements to Apple Music

If you want to listen to music these days, your best bet is to subscribe to a streaming service. For a few tens of crowns a month, you can get access to millions of different songs, albums and playlists, without the need to download anything and bother with the transfer. The biggest players in the field of music streaming services are Spotify and Apple Music, with the first mentioned service leading by a large margin. This is due, among other things, to better content recommendations, which Spotify has practically flawless, while Apple Music falters somehow. However, this should change in iOS 16, as Siri should be added to Apple Music, which should significantly improve content recommendations. In addition, we should also look forward to the introduction of the new Apple Classical application, which will be appreciated by all classical music lovers who will find it here.

News in apps and features

As part of iOS 16, Apple will focus, among other things, on improving and redesigning some native applications and functions. For example, the native Health application, which is currently considered by many users to be confusing and generally poorly handled, should receive a significant overhaul. Work is also reportedly underway to improve and redesign the native Podcasts app, and some changes should also be made to the Mail app, along with Reminders and Files. In addition, we should also look forward to improvements to the Focus modes. Unfortunately, at the moment it is not possible to say exactly what changes and news we will see - some will come, but we will have to wait for specific information.
