Samsung has introduced its flagship Galaxy S22 smartphone line, which includes three different models. The highlight is of course the Galaxy S22 Ultra model, which adopts many elements of the previously successful but now discontinued Note series. And there are certainly some elements that many iPhone users would like.

S Pen

The merger of the Galaxy S series with the Galaxy Note has resulted in the Galaxy S22, the top model of the series, now featuring a dedicated slot for the S Pen stylus. Samsung already flirted with its support in the previous generation, but for that you had to buy the S Pen additionally, as well as the case in which you attached it. Now the slot is present directly in the device, including of course the pen itself.

Of course, the logical question is whether any iPhone user would use the possibility of controlling it through the stylus at all. However, Samsung has shown for many years that this solution had its supporters, and therefore tried to satisfy them with the latest news. At least the Max models of the iPhones provide a large enough display for the company to give them some added functionality. After all, he already has experience with styluses, so it might just be enough to make the Apple Pencil smaller and figure out how to hide it in the body of the iPhone.

Display

There is no need to talk about the size of the display itself. The Galaxy S22 Ultra has a 6,8" size, the iPhone 13 Pro Max is a tenth smaller. It's more about maximum brightness here. Apple states that its Pro models have a maximum brightness (typical) of 1000 nits, and 1200 nits in HDR. But Samsung pretty much beat these numbers. Its Galaxy S22+ and S22 Ultra models have a brightness of up to 1750 nits. Contrast ratio (typical) is 2:000 for iPhones, Samsung models bid a million more. The company has also improved the variable refresh rate, and its latest flagship phone can switch from 000Hz all the way up to 1Hz as needed. The iPhone 1 Pro range starts at 120 Hz.

Cameras

Although we expect the iPhone 14 Pro to have a 48MP camera, the 108MP in the case of the Galaxy S22 Ultra still won't be enough. But this may not be a disadvantage for iPhones, so this point does not apply to the main wide-angle camera, as a telephoto lens. Samsung's previous flagship model already had a 10MP periscope lens with ten times optical zoom. At Apple, we are still waiting for a similar step, and we have to settle for only three times the zoom.

Charging speeds

Samsung is definitely not one of those companies that would provide their devices with who knows how fast charging. Although he originally accelerated it according to the trend, he later decided that this was not the way to go and actually reduced the speed of his flagship models. In the case of wireless charging, it still stays at 15 W, which even the iPhone can do if you connect a MagSafe charger to it. Wired charging can only officially handle 20W, while the new S22+ and S22+ Ultra models will offer 45W. And that seems to be ideal for reducing the charging time but still not destroying the battery. And then there is reverse 4,5W charging, which Apple does not provide for its iPhones, with the help of which you would charge, for example, AirPods.

Price concessions

How to get a cheaper iPhone? In the case of a new model, it is really difficult. At the most, if a seller waived his margin and made phones cheaper for customers by its amount. However, Samsung has a different pricing policy, which it successfully implements even with the new Galaxy S22 series. If you pre-order a model, you will receive Galaxy Buds Pro headphones for free (their price is 5 CZK), in addition, you can save another 990 CZK when you hand in your old device, and there is also a bonus of 5 CZK after entering the appropriate code. But everything only applies to pre-orders.

However, not to be outdone by Samsung, there are also a few elements that its flagship smartphone line could learn from the iPhones.

Face ID

The news includes an under-display ultrasonic fingerprint reader, but Face ID is more technologically advanced.

MagSafe

MagSafe technology can be used not only for faster wireless charging, but also for an interesting accessory solution.

LiDAR scanner

Samsung brags about the news that it has improved its portrait mode, which can correctly recognize the hairs of pets from their surroundings. On the back of the Ultra, it offers a quad camera, but there is no room left for the LiDAR alternative.

Film mode

It can be expected that sooner or later other manufacturers of Android devices will start copying this impressive video recording mode, but Samsung did not manage to do it, at least in its Galaxy S22 series.
