Sharing from Mac to iPhone

Some actions in Apple Maps are better done on a Mac than on an iPhone. For example, if you plan any trip using Apple Maps on your Mac, you can quickly and conveniently send the route directly to your iPhone when you leave home. The only condition is that both devices – i.e. Mac and iPhone – are signed in to the same iCloud account. Launch Apple Maps on your Mac and enter your planned route as you normally would. Then click on the share icon (rectangle with an arrow) and choose the device to which you want to send the route.

3D mode

When you launch Apple Maps, you'll see the map in 2D mode by default. However, you can easily and quickly switch it to a three-dimensional display at any time, by placing two fingers on the display and carefully dragging them upwards. You can then switch back to the 2D view either in the opposite direction or by clicking on the inscription "2D" on the right.

flyover

Apple Maps has also included a feature called Flyover for some time. Although this is only available in larger cities, it looks very impressive and shows you the selected city from a bird's eye view with the possibility to focus more closely on some of the buildings. For example, you can use the flyover to get an idea of the distance between two selected landmarks in a given city, or you can simply enjoy the view itself. To move in Flyover mode, just move your phone up, down and sideways, and slide your finger across the map. If you tap on the map in Flyover mode, a tour menu will appear at the bottom of the screen, and you can enjoy aerial views of the city.

Delete location history

If you don't care about Apple Maps recording your location, that's no problem. In Maps, you can easily delete the history of the most visited places and prevent Apple from saving these locations.

  • On your iPhone, go to Settings -> Privacy -> Location Services.
  • Scroll down to System Services and tap on it.
  • At the very bottom, you'll find Points of Interest.
  • In the "History" section, click on the item you want to delete.
  • After clicking it, click "Edit" in the upper right corner.
  • You can delete individual points by clicking on the red round icon on the right -> Delete.

You can turn off the recording of important places in Settings -> Privacy -> Location services -> System services -> Important places, where you move the relevant button to the "off" position. Apple warns that turning off important places can affect functions such as Do Not Disturb while driving, Siri, CarPlay, Calendar or Photos, but does not provide more details.

Turn off Siri when navigating

For example, if you like to sing while driving, the last thing you want is to be interrupted while singing by Siri telling you in a monotone voice that you forgot to leave the roundabout. Whatever reason you don't want to use Siri for navigation, you can easily turn off her voice.

  • Go to Settings -> Maps.
  • Tap Controls & Navigation.
  • In the "Voice Navigation Volume" section, select the "No Voice Navigation" option.
