Although most events are currently postponed or moved to an online environment, the use of a calendar is definitely suitable for remote meetings. If you are looking for a powerful tool with an abundance of all kinds of functions to manage your activities, you will probably reach for a more advanced solution and not for the pre-installed Calendar from Apple. But if you are not demanding, this native application will serve you more than perfectly. Although it has slightly fewer features than specialized third-party applications, there are some useful ones that you might find useful - and I would like to devote a few lines to them in this article.

Entering events in natural language

Many users cannot get used to using the calendar. Not even because it was confusing for them, but rather because of the rather lengthy setting of the time, date and other details. In the macOS calendar, however, events can only be entered from the keyboard. After opening the Calendar app, tap + symbol, or press the hotkey Command + N, and to the event creation field enter the data. Writing is simple, just write the text in style Dinner with grandparents on Friday at 18:00 - 21:00.

Customize notifications

Not everyone checks their calendar every day. It is convenient for such users that the calendar automatically notifies them of the created events. Someone, on the other hand, is rather distracted by too frequent notifications and prefers to focus on their work undisturbed instead. You can customize the notifications in the Calendar after you tap on in the top bar Calendar -> Preferences, where you go to the tab on the toolbar Notice. Here it is possible for each account separately activate when you will be notified of upcoming events.

Joining a video conference

Whether your school or organization uses Google Meet or Microsoft Teams, all scheduled meetings sync with your calendar. You can open this calendar on the web, but if you link your account to the native app, connecting will be a little easier. First you add your school account, you do this by tapping on Calendar -> Add account. When all the events are synchronized, in the given calendar find the class you want to join and in the details of the event, tap Join. The corresponding application of the online tool will open, which you can easily find your way around. You can also make a quick connection in safari, where the event appears in Siri suggestions.

Toggle calendar view

Just like on the iPhone and iPad, you can also switch between day, week, month and year views in macOS. You do this after opening the Calendar by moving to Display in the top bar and switching the display for day, week, month or year, or by pressing a hotkey Command + upper row of keys without Shift, when the number 1 switches to the day, 2 to the week, 3 to the month and 4 to the year. You can also adjust the size of the calendar or set the display of various events in the display options.

Changing the default calendar

When you're working with someone on certain projects, you usually put a lot of thought into creating an event and think about which account to use for it. But if you just want to write down a quick event, it's a good idea to have your personal calendar or one you share with your family pre-set for these purposes. To change the default calendar, select in the top bar Calendar -> Preferences, and on the card In general click the section Default calendar. Finally you are select the one you want to use.
