Searching for saved passwords

Not only novice users often wonder how to find saved passwords on Mac. The management of passwords and other sensitive data is handled by a native tool called Keychain within the macOS operating system - and this is where you can find your saved passwords. First, launch Keychain itself, for example by pressing Cmd + Spacebar to activate Spotlight and then typing "Keychain" into its search field. In the panel at the top of the window, click Passwords, and then you can either manually browse through all passwords or use the search box to find a specific item.

Import and export passwords

You can also effectively use the keychain on your Mac to import or export passwords. This process has become much easier with the arrival of the macOS Monterey operating system, so that anyone can easily handle it. In the upper left corner of your Mac screen, click  menu -> System Preferences. Click on Passwords, confirm your login and then click on the wheel icon with three dots in the lower left corner. Finally, choose either Export Passwords or Import Passwords as needed, select the appropriate items, and choose a storage destination.

Changing the password on the site

If you use Keychain on iCloud, you can easily use it to change your passwords from various sites. To change your password on a Mac, click the  menu -> System Preferences in the upper left corner of your computer screen. choose Passwords, confirm the login, and then select the item you want to change in the left part of the window. In the upper right corner, click Edit -> Change password on the page and make the change.

Checking exposed passwords

Not a day goes by that various user passwords are not exposed, disclosed, and potentially misused. If your password is exposed, it is a good idea to change it immediately. But how do you ensure that you are notified that a given password has been exposed? In the upper left corner of your Mac screen, click  menu -> System Preferences -> Passwords. Confirm the login and check Detect exposed passwords at the bottom of the window.

Manually add a password

In addition to automatically saving passwords, Keychain on iCloud also offers the option of entering them manually. How to enter password manually on Mac? In the upper left corner of the display, click  menu -> System Preferences. Select Passwords, confirm login and click the "+" icon in the lower left corner. In the end, all you have to do is enter your login information and confirm by clicking Add password.
