Privacy, its protection and preservation is important not only for the users themselves, but also for Apple. That's why the company offers quite a few tools within its operating systems to help you with security and the protection of your privacy. How can you protect your privacy on Mac?

Block cross-site tracking in Safari

If you really don't care about website operators sharing information about your online behavior with each other, you can quickly and easily block cross-site tracking in Safari on Mac. Launch Safari, then click Safari -> Preferences on the bar at the top of the screen. In the window that appears, click on Privacy and activate the item Prevent cross-site tracking.

Application access control

The applications you have installed on your Mac often require access to things like your contacts, webcam, microphone, or even the contents of your hard drive. However, it is not always necessary to enable this access for some applications. If you need to check and possibly adjust what parts of the system some of the applications on your Mac have access to, click on the  menu -> System Preferences in the upper left corner of the screen. Choose Security & Privacy, click the Privacy tab, and you can start checking individual items in the left-hand panel, while in the main window you can disable or allow apps to access those items.

FileVault

You should also have FileVault encryption enabled on your Mac. With FileVault turned on, you can be sure that your data is encrypted and safe, and only you can access it thanks to the possession of a specific rescue key. To turn on FileVault on your Mac, click the  menu -> System Preferences in the top left corner. Choose Security & Privacy, click the FileVault tab at the top of the window, start activation, and follow the on-screen instructions.

Prohibit sending data to Siri

Siri can be a useful virtual assistant in many cases. However, a number of users refuse to share data related to their interaction with Siri with Apple due to concerns about their privacy. If you also want to disable the sharing of this data just to be safe, click on the  menu in the upper left corner -> System Preferences -> Security & Privacy -> Privacy -> Analysis & Enhancement, and disable Siri Enhancement & Dictation.

Sharing data with developers

Similar to Siri data sharing, you can also disable Mac analytics data and data sharing with app developers on your Mac. This is analytical data, the sharing of which is primarily used to improve the system and applications, but if you do not want to share it with developers and Apple, you can easily disable this sharing. In the upper left corner of your Mac screen, click  menu -> System Preferences -> Security & Privacy -> Privacy -> Analysis & Enhancements. Click the lock in the lower left corner, confirm your identity, and disable Share Mac Analytics Data and Share Data with App Developers.
