A few days ago, this year's second Apple conference took place, namely WWDC22. At this developers' conference, as expected, as every year, we saw the introduction of new operating systems from Apple - iOS and iPadOS 16, macOS 13 Ventura and watchOS 9. All these new operating systems are currently available in developer beta versions and together with we have been dedicating it to them since it was published in our magazine. In this article, we'll take a look at 5 new features in Photos from iOS 16 that you should know about.

Cropping an object from an image

One of the great features in Photos from iOS 16, which Apple even presented directly at the conference for a relatively long time, includes cropping an object from an image. So if you have a photo where there is an object in the foreground that you would like to cut out and thus remove the background, now in iOS 16 you simply can. Just hold your finger on the object and then move it anywhere. The cut object will snap to your finger and then you just have to move to where you want to share it and paste it here.

Locking the Hidden and Recently Deleted albums

Almost all of us have some photos or videos on our iPhone that are purely private and that simply shouldn't be seen by anyone. For a long time, there has been a Hidden album in iOS, where you can put all the content that should not be shown in the library. This will remove photos and videos from the library, but they can still be easily accessed through the Photos application. Users have been begging for the ability to lock the Hidden album for a long time, and in iOS 16 they finally got it. To activate the function, just go to Settings → Photos, where below in the category Alba activate with the switch Use Face ID or Use Touch ID.

Copy photo edits

In iOS 13, the native Photos application has received relatively large improvements, especially in terms of image and video editing options. This means that it is no longer necessary to download third-party applications to edit photos and videos. However, if you had several photos (or videos) in front of you that you needed to edit anyway, there was no option to copy the edits and then apply them to other photos. All photos had to be edited manually. In iOS 16, however, this is no longer the case, and photo edits can finally be copied. Enough for modified slide slide, tap in the top right three dots icon, select an option Copy edits, go to another photo tap again three dots icon and select Embed edits.

Back and forth for editing

We will stay with image editing. As I mentioned on the previous page, basic editing of photos (and videos) can be done directly in the native Photos application. All you have to do is open a photo and then tap Edit at the top left for all the options. In iOS 16, however, we have seen improvements to this interface - specifically, we can finally go step by stepgo back or forward. It's enough that you in the upper left corner, they clicked on the appropriate arrow, just like in a web browser. Finally, don't forget to tap on after making all the adjustments Done bottom right.

Duplicate detection

Smartphone manufacturers have been constantly trying to improve camera systems in recent years. They are thus capable of producing high-quality images, where we often have trouble knowing whether they come from an iPhone or a mirrorless camera. However, this quality comes at a cost – users have to sacrifice storage space, which is a problem especially with older iPhones. In order to save space in the storage, it is necessary to tidy up Photos and possibly delete unnecessary duplicates. It was possible to use a third-party application to delete duplicates, but now this option is available directly in the native application Photos. Just go to the section in the bottom menu Alba, where to get off all the way down to the category More albumsand click open Duplicates. All recognized duplicates can now be viewed and possibly deleted here.
