The iOS 16 operating system was released to the public a few days ago, and we are fully devoted to it in our magazine so that you know about all the news and gadgets that it comes with. As part of the new iOS 16 operating system, Apple did not forget about the native Photos application, which has also been improved. And it should be mentioned that some changes are really welcomed with open arms, because users have been calling for them for a really long time. In this article, we will look together at 5 new features in Photos from iOS 16 that you should know about.

Copy photo edits

For several years now, the Photos application has included a very pleasant and simple editor, thanks to which it is possible to quickly edit not only photos, but also videos. It practically eliminates the need to install any third-party photo editing application. But the problem until now was that the adjustments could not be simply copied and immediately applied to other images, so everything had to be done manually, photo by photo. In iOS 16, this changes, and the edits can finally be copied. It's enough that you they opened the modified photo, and then pressed in the upper right three dots icon, where to select from the menu Copy edits. Then open or tag photos, tap again three dots icon and select Embed edits.

Duplicate photo detection

For most users, photos and videos take up the most storage space on the iPhone. And there is nothing to be surprised about, since such a photo is quite a few tens of megabytes, and a minute of video is quite hundreds of megabytes. For this reason, it is necessary that you maintain order in your gallery. One of the big problems can be duplicates, i.e. identical photos that are saved multiple times and take up space unnecessarily. Until now, users had to download third-party apps and allow access to photos to detect duplicates, which isn't ideal from a privacy perspective. However, now in iOS 16 it is finally possible to delete duplicates directly from the app Photos. Just move all the way down to the section Other albums, where to click Duplicates.

Cropping an object from the foreground of the image

Perhaps the most interesting feature of the Photos app in iOS 16 is the option to cut out an object from the foreground of the image – Apple devoted a relatively large amount of time to this feature in its presentation. Specifically, this feature can use artificial intelligence to recognize an object in the foreground and easily separate it from the background with the possibility of immediate sharing. It's enough that you they opened the photo and then held a finger on the object in the foreground. once you will feel a haptic response, so finger pick up which leads to object boundary. Then you can be it copy, or straight away to share. To use it, you must have an iPhone XS and newer, at the same time, for an ideal result, the object in the foreground must be recognizable from the background, for example portrait photos are ideal, but this is not a condition.

Lock photos

Most of us have photos or videos stored on our iPhone that we don't want anyone to see. Until now, it was only possible to hide this content, and if you wanted to fully lock it down, you had to use a third-party app, which again isn't ideal from a privacy perspective. In iOS 16, however, a function is finally available to lock all hidden photos using Touch ID or Face ID. To activate, go to Settings → Photos, where below in the category Activate Use albums touch ID or Use Face ID. After that, the Hidden album will be locked in the Photos application. It is then enough to hide the content open or mark, tap on icon three dots and choose Hide.

Step back and forward to edit

As I mentioned on one of the previous pages, Photos includes a capable editor in which you can edit photos and videos. If you've done any editing in it up until now, the problem was that you couldn't move back and forth between them. This means that if you made any changes, you had to revert them manually. But they are new arrows to go back and forward one step finally available, making content editing even easier and more enjoyable. You will find them in the upper left corner of the editor.
