Yesterday evening, after several weeks of waiting, we saw the release of operating system updates. And there are certainly not a few new versions - specifically, the Californian giant came with iOS and iPadOS 14.4, watchOS 7.3, tvOS 14.4 and with the operating system for HomePods also in version 14.4. As for the operating system for iPhones, compared to version 14.3, we did not see any extra significant changes, but there are a few anyway. That is why we decided to combine this article with the news that was also added in watchOS 7.3. So if you want to find out what you can expect from new versions of operating systems, then continue reading.

Unity dial and strap

With the arrival of watchOS 7.3, Apple introduced a new collection of watch faces called Unity. Celebrating black history, the Unity dial is inspired by the colors of the Pan-African flag – its shapes change throughout the day as you move, creating your own unique design on the dial. In addition to the dials, Apple also introduced a special edition Apple Watch Series 6. The body of this edition is space gray, the strap combines black, red and green colors. On the strap there are the inscriptions Solidarity, Truth and Power, on the lower part of the watch, specifically near the sensor, there is the inscription Black Unity. Apple should also sell the mentioned strap separately in 38 countries of the world, but the question remains whether the Czech Republic will also appear on the list.

EKG in multiple states

Apple Watch Series 4 and later, except SE, have an ECG function. If you have owned a newer watch with ECG support for a long time, then you probably know that in the Czech Republic we had to wait a long time for the possibility of using this function - specifically, we got it in May 2019. However, there are still countless other countries in the world in which Unfortunately, users do not measure ECG. But the good news is that the ECG feature, along with the irregular heart rhythm notification, has also expanded to Japan, the Philippines, Mayotte, and Thailand with the arrival of watchOS 7.3.

Security bug fixes

As I already mentioned in the introduction, iOS 14.4 does not quite bring a sea of new functions and features. On the other hand, we saw a total of three major security flaws that plagued all iPhone 6s and newer, iPad Air 2 and newer, iPod mini 4 and newer, and the latest iPod touch fixed. For the time being, it is not entirely clear what the bug fixes are - Apple is not releasing this information for the reason that too many people, that is, hackers, do not learn about them, and therefore that individuals who have not yet updated to iOS 14.4 are not at risk. However, one of the bugs is said to have changed the permissions of apps that could then access your data even if you disabled it. The other two errors have to do with WebKit. Using these flaws, attackers were supposed to be able to run arbitrary code on iPhones. Apple even states that these bugs have already been exploited. So definitely don't delay the update.

Bluetooth device type

With the arrival of iOS 14.4, Apple added a new function to the Bluetooth settings. Specifically, users now have the option to set the exact type of device for the audio device - for example, speakers in the vehicle, headphones, hearing aid, classic speaker and others. If users specify the type of their Bluetooth audio device, it will ensure that the audio volume measurement is much more accurate. You set this option in Settings -> Bluetooth, where you tap on the i in the circle for a specific device.

Changes to cameras

The Camera application, which can read smaller QR codes on iPhones, has also been improved. In addition, Apple added a notification for iPhone 12 that will be displayed if the camera module is replaced at an unauthorized service. This means that currently, DIYers can no longer replace the display, battery, and camera at home on newer Apple phones without seeing a message about using a non-genuine part in the Notifications and Settings app.
