iPhone games generally fall into three categories – good, bad and addictive. The last category may not be very indicative of the quality of the game, but if it has something that will keep people playing it over and over again, it has the potential to become popular, if not legendary.

What do most of these games have in common? It is primarily a pursuit of the highest possible score. This guarantees endless playability, as you have an engine that will keep you coming back to the game. We have selected for you five of the most addictive games in the history of the App Store, plus one bonus. As you can notice, all the games support retina display, which is a testament to their popularity resulting from the will of the developers to constantly improve their game.

Doodle Jump

If our list had an order, Doodle Jump would surely be at the top. Of all the games listed, it undoubtedly has the simplest graphics, which only underlines the saying that there is beauty in simplicity. The whole environment is reminiscent of notebook drawings, which gives the game a kind of school desk feel.

The goal of the game is simple - to jump as high as possible with Doodler and get the highest possible result. Various obstacles like holes in the "paper", disappearing platforms and omnipresent enemies will make you complain about this task, but Doodler can shoot them down.

On the contrary, you will also find many gadgets that will help you in your progress, whether it is a cap with a propeller, a rocket backpack or a shield. If you get tired of the classic environment, you can choose from several different themes that can bring the game to life pleasantly

Flight Control

Another classic in the App Store that may never have left the same as Doodle Jump Top 25.

In this game, instead, you are tasked with guiding planes and helicopters to airfields depending on their type. This may seem easy until the moment when more and more flying machines start appearing on your screen. Once any two of them collide, the game ends.

There are 11 types of airplanes in the game. You guide them in Flight Control by dragging your finger, when the machines will copy the curve you draw. You can guide them on a total of five different maps and compare your results with friends and the whole world on Game Center. You will also be pleased with the beautifully rendered graphics and the winning music will perfectly calm you during the otherwise stressful "work" of the head of flight control.

Over time, Flight Control has found its way to the iPad and now also to PC and Mac, which is certainly a testament to its popularity.

Angry Birds

A game that has become a legend overnight. This is also how you can characterize this great act, which is constantly at the top of the sales charts all over the world. We are talking about Angry Birds, which have won the hearts of almost all players and non-players and offer long hours of entertainment.

The game is largely based on both humorous presentation and physics. The story is very simple - the Birds fight against an evil group of pigs who have stolen their beloved eggs to make a protein-rich lunch. So they put their own lives on the line to show these green pigs what a beak is all about.

Each of the levels takes place on a plain, where on one side there is a structure with deployed chuns, on the other a prepared slingshot with kamikaze birds hungry for revenge. You gradually catapult the birds out of the slingshot to send the chuns into the pig sky and at the same time break as many structures as possible. If there is not a single green enemy left on the map, your points are added up and you are awarded one, two or three stars based on them.

You have several birds at your disposal, some can split into three, some lay explosive eggs, others turn into a living bomb or a well-aimed feathered missile. In each level, the composition of your bird is predetermined and how you deal with it is up to you.

As for the levels, you can demolish almost 200 (!) of them, which is an almost unbelievable number for a game for a dollar. At the same time, each of the levels is original in its own way and it will not happen to you that it appears after the first hundred deja vu

If, despite the huge number of Angry Birds levels, you have finished (preferably all to the maximum number of stars), there is also a kind of data disk with a subtitle Helloween, which contains another 45 great levels.

Fruit Ninja

Fruit Ninja is the youngest of all the games from our top five. The game was released about half a year ago and in a very short time it gained a lot of fans and developed into one of the most popular games ever.

As with all casual games, the principle is very simple. In the case of this game, it's chopping fruit with your finger. This may seem very stereotypical on the one hand, but once you play Fruit Ninja, you'll find that it's actually a lot of fun.

The game offers several modes. The first of them is Classic – in this mode you have to chop all the fruits you can get your hands on without dropping any. Once you get three pieces down, it's game over. Everything is made more difficult by the occasional bombs that pop up - if you hit it, it explodes right in your face and it's also game over. Combos, which are hitting three or more pieces of fruit with one swipe, also help to increase your score.

Zen mode, on the other hand, offers a peaceful game where you don't have to pay attention to bombs or whether you forgot to cut something. You are only pressed by time. In 90 seconds, you have to cut as many fruits as possible to get the highest score possible.

The last Arcade mode is a kind of hybrid of the previous two. Again you have a time limit, this time 60 seconds, in which you have to upload as many points as possible. You will also encounter insidious bombs, luckily you will only lose 10 points after hitting them. But the main ones are the "bonus" bananas, after hitting which you will receive one of the bonuses, such as freezing time, double the score or "fruit frenzy", when fruit will fall on you from all sides for a certain period of time, which will help you to load some extra points .

The chapter itself is multiplayer, which takes place over the Internet using Game Center. Both players must hit only their color of fruit. If it hits the opponent's, the points are lost. In addition to the red and blue fruits, you will also come across the white-bordered one here. This is for both players and whoever hits it gets a point bonus.

The only downside is that your finger will probably start to burn after playing for a long time. Although the front of the iPhone is made of durable glass, otherwise almost all Fruit Ninja players would be characterized by severely scratched displays.

Minigore

Undoubtedly the most action-packed game of the five. Minigore is a pioneer of the so-called "dual stick" control on the iPhone. We already know the two levers from the Playstation 1 era and they have taken well on the touch screen in virtual form. With the left stick you determine the direction of movement, the other the direction of fire.

And what are we actually going to shoot? Some furry monsters that surprised poor John Gore on his walk through the woods. Fortunately, he had his trusty weapon with him and decided not to give up these monsters without a fight. So, as you can see, the whole game consists of moving around several different forest plains and shooting anything that shows the slightest movement.

At first, you will only encounter small hairs, but over time they will become larger and more durable, and after they are disposed of, they will split into several smaller ones. To make matters worse, a kind of jumping snake will also grind its teeth on you from time to time.

To ward off this furry threat, which seeks your three lives, in addition to changing weapons, you will also be able to transform into a kancodlak (and sometimes into other hairs), which you can achieve by collecting three green shamrocks. In this state, all you have to do is run over the onrushing cogs and furry balls to send them to the eternal hunting grounds.

Once you get tired of John Gore, you can buy new characters for the game with the points you collect, some of them are only available as In-App Purchases. You gradually unlock new locations and get new achievements. Thanks to Game Center integration, you can compare your scores with your friends, i.e. with the world's best players.

One more thing ...

It was not easy to choose the 5 most addictive games, especially when there are so many in the App Store. There was also a discussion in our editorial office about which of the games deserved a place in our Top 5. However, several of us agreed that one more addictive game deserved its place in the sun, so we present you as a bonus piece...

Tilt to Live

Tilt to Live is very unique in its concept and requires fine handwork. No, this is not a watchmaker's job, but precision will also be required to a great extent. Not to stress you out, the entire game is controlled by tilting the iPhone in a more or less horizontal position. By tilting, you control a white arrow as it fights for its bare life in a mess of evil red dots.

She will not do it alone, she has a considerable arsenal of weapons with which we can mercilessly eliminate the red dots. At the beginning you get three - a nuke that destroys everything in the vicinity of the explosion, a firework where individual missiles are guided by themselves on your red enemies, and a "purple wave" that devastates everything in its path in the direction in which you launch it. You activate all of these weapons by bumping into them. What you must not bump into are enemy dots, such a collision means your inevitable death and the end of the game.

By gradually destroying the dots, you get achievements rated points, and for a certain number of them you will subsequently be rewarded with some new weapon. Once you get to a frost wave, wormhole, or cog shield, the red dots will often run away from you rather than you from them. However, don't think that you will be invincible with such an arsenal. Clusters of dots will continue to grow and you will often sweat a lot to zigzag between them to some flying weapon to kill a few dozen of them from the world (or from the screen).

I would like to dwell on achievements for a moment. They are very humorously commented on, as you can see in the following translated quotes: “Arms Race - 2nd place! – You have detonated 30 nuclear bombs in the game. In doing so, you trampled the previous world record of two bombs into the ground.” The second one after reaching the combo 42x refers to a favorite book The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy: "42 is the meaning of life, the universe and everything. We just saved you a lot of Googling.”

If you get tired of the classic mode, the authors have prepared 3 others for you. "Red Alert" is just a classic mode on steroids, but Gauntlet is a completely different game. Your goal is to survive as long as possible while collecting individual bonuses that complement the disappearing indicator, after which the game ends. Collecting is not an easy matter at all, you have to weave through ornaments formed by enemy dots. When they start throwing themselves at you like an ax or a knife, you'll appreciate that the game gave you 3 lives instead of one.

Frostbite is a sequel to the popular activity of breaking frozen dots after being hit by a frost wave. Your job is to smash them all before they reach the other end of the screen where they thaw. After that, you will have a problem getting rid of them. Your only weapon will be a line of fire, which will only appear over time.

The graphics are excellent, the animations are very effective and perfectly complement the whole atmosphere of the game. However, the soundtrack is excellent with very catchy melodies that you may still be humming for an hour after the last game.

Tilt to Live – €2.39
