2013 brought a lot of great apps for both Apple's operating systems. Therefore, we have selected for you the five best that appeared for iOS this year. The applications had to fulfill two basic conditions – their first version had to be released this year and it could not be an update or a new version of an already existing application. In addition to these five, you will also find three other contenders for the best applications of this year.

Mailbox

Until Apple allows you to change the default apps in iOS, for example, using an alternative email client will never be so convenient and full-featured. However, that didn't stop the Orchestra development team from coming up with Mailbox, a major attack on the core Mail app.

Mailbox tries to look at the e-mail box in a slightly different way and adds functions such as postponing and subsequent message reminders, quick organization of the inbox using gestures and, above all, tries to empty the inbox and get to the so-called "inbox zero" state. Mailbox works with e-mails practically like tasks, so you always have everything read, sorted or planned. Newly, in addition to Gmail, Mailbox also supports Yahoo and iCloud accounts, which will attract even more users.

Publishing

Editorial is currently one of the best Markdown editors for iOS, specifically for the iPad. It can do everything you expect from such an editor, for example, it contains a fifth character bar for Markdown, it can connect to Dropbox and save documents to it or open them from it, it supports TextExpander and it also allows you to insert your own snippets using variables. Visual display of Markdown tags is also a matter of course.

However, Editorial's biggest charm lies in its action editor. The application includes something like Automator, where you can create even more complex scripts, for example, to sort a list alphabetically or insert a link from the integrated browser as a reference source. However, it does not end there, Editorial contains a complete interpreter for the Python scripting language, the possibilities of use are so endless. To make matters worse, the application also integrates the well-known concept of moving the cursor by moving on the fifth row of keys, thus enabling significantly more accurate cursor placement than iOS natively. It is thus an ideal tool for scribes on the iPad.

wine

Vine is a service that Twitter managed to buy before its launch. It is a specialized social network similar to Instagram, but its content consists of short videos of several seconds that can be shot, edited and uploaded in the application. In addition, the application is closely connected with Twitter, and videos can be shared on the network and played directly on Twitter. Not long after Vine, this concept was also adopted by Instagram, which increased the length of videos to 15 seconds and added the possibility of using filters, Vine is still a very popular social network that can say it was the first on the market. If you're interested in Instagram for short videos, Vine is the place to be.

Yahoo Weather

Although Yahoo is the weather forecast data provider for the native iPhone app, it has also come with its own forecast display app. The Czech graphic artist Robin Raszka participated in it, among others. The application itself did not contain any essential functions, but its design was unique, which was the forerunner of iOS 7, and Apple was largely inspired by this application when redesigning its own. The application displayed beautiful photos from Flickr in the background, and the information was displayed in a simple font and icons. The application thus ranks alongside Any.Do and Letterpress, which influenced the design of iOS 7.

Cal | Calendar by Any.do

There are many alternative calendars for iOS and everyone can choose one. However, most well-known brands have been in the App Store for more than a year. The exception is Cal from developers application A. Cal appeared this July and offered a very fast and intuitive interface that again offered something different from the calendars available so far. Quickly create events based on a whisperer that predicts who you want to meet and where you want to do so; simple search for free time in the calendar, and the connection with the Any.do task list is also strong.

Worth mentioning

  • MailPilot – Similar to Mailbox, Mail Pilot also tries to offer a slightly different approach to the e-mail box. Mail Pilot also offers the management of individual emails as if they were tasks that need to be either resolved, postponed or deleted. What differs from Mailbox is mainly the control philosophy and the graphic interface. And also the price, that's it 13,99 EUR.
  • Instashare – We already wrote about Instashare in the selection the best apps for Mac, we only mention it marginally in our selection of the best apps for iOS, but it definitely deserves your attention. After all, the Mac application is practically useless without the iOS one. Instashare for iOS can be purchased free, no ads for 0,89 EUR.
  • TeeVee 2 – TeeVee 2 is not a brand new application, however, the changes compared to the first version were so fundamental and significant that we decided to include this Czechoslovak application in the selection of the best applications of this year. TeeVee 2 provides a very simple and quick overview of your watched series, so you don't have to miss a single episode. TeeVee 2 stands 1,79 EUR, you can read the review <a href="https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/1932/8043/files/200721_ODSTOUPENI_BEZ_UDANI_DUVODU__EN.pdf?v=1595428404" data-gt-href-en="https://en.notsofunnyany.com/">here</a>.
