Automator is often among the most unfairly overlooked applications on the Mac. Many people believe that Automator is a tool for more advanced users, but the truth is that there are quite a few procedures that even the less experienced can handle in Automator.

Mass file renaming

If you want to create a procedure for bulk renaming files on your Mac, start Automator and select Task sequence. In panel on the left click on the tab Events and then in the section Library choose Files and folders. Select an item from the second column Load selected Finder items and drag it to the main window. Then from of the same column select an item Rename Finder items and in the drop-down menu with the item Add date or time select the action you want to perform and enter additional details. Run it Finder, choose the location where you want to perform the action you just set, and then v upper right corner of the window Click on Automator Start.

Convert image files

You can also create a procedure for converting files from one format to another quite easily in Automator on Mac. After starting Automator, select Task sequence and then in upper left corner of the window Select a card for the automator Events. In the section Library choose Files and folders, select an item in the sidebar Load selected Finder items and drag it to main window. And leftmost column click on Fotky and then in side column select an item Change the type of images. In drop down menu select the desired file type. To use the task sequence, just mark the files you want to convert in the selected location and then v upper right corner of the window Automator to run the given sequence of tasks.

Merge PDF files

You can also merge multiple PDF files into one in Automator. Although this function is offered by a number of different applications for working with documents of this type, after creating the appropriate sequence of tasks, it will be a really simple and quick action. After starting Automator, select Task sequence av upper left corner of the window click on the tab Events. In the section Library choose Files and folders, That column on the right select an item Load selected Finder items and drag it to the window on the right. IN menu on the far left click on PDF, and side column choose Merge PDF pages. Select whether you want to use join or shuffle pages.

Resize images

If you don't want to resize image files, for example, in the native Preview, you can create an action in Automator for this purpose. Start Automator and select this time Quick action. In upper left corner of the window Choose the automator Events and in the section Library choose Files and folders. And columns to the right choose Load the specified Finder items and drag it to window on the right. Move back to column on the left, click on Fotky, and in side column select an item Adjust the size of images – after that you only need to enter the necessary parameters.

Dark mode in the Dock

Do you want to create a simple switch to dark or light mode in Automator that you can use in your Dock? No problem. Start Automator and select Application. In upper left corner of the window Choose the automator Events and then in the section Library choose Utility. In columns to the right select an item Changing the appearance of the system and drag it to window on the right. In drop down menu choose Toggle light/dark modeAt toolbar at the top screen on your Mac, click on File and select Impose. For example, you can select a folder for the file location Application. Then open the appropriate folder and drag the created item to the Dock, where you can quickly switch between light and dark modes with a click.
