Not long ago, Apple presented new products - in one day we specifically saw the new 14″ and 16″ MacBook Pro and Mac mini. Of course, these are not brand new products, but updates, so all the changes took place mainly in the hardware. Let's take a look together in this article at the 5 main innovations that come with the new Mac mini.

Lower price

At the outset, it is important to say that while, for example, the Apple company has recently increased the price of iPhones, and indeed fundamentally, it has managed to lower the price of the Mac mini, on the contrary. While the previous generation Mac mini with the M1 chip could be purchased for 21 crowns, the new basic version with the M990 chip costs only 2 crowns. It is important to mention that if you are a student, you can get this basic Mac mini with M17 for only 490 crowns. This is a truly unbeatable price tag and you would be hard pressed to find the same computer from another company.

M2 Pro chip

What many of us were waiting for, that is, what many of us believed in, has really become a reality. Apple has been making us incredibly happy in the Mac world in recent years. You can install the new Mac mini not only with the basic M2 chip, but also with a more powerful variant in the form of the M2 Pro. This chip can be configured with a 12-core CPU, up to a 19-core GPU and up to 32GB of unified memory, which is enough for the vast majority of advanced users. And if you need even more performance, just reach for the Mac Studio, which will certainly also get an update this year.

Display support

A total of two displays could be connected to the previous generation Mac mini with the M1 chip. If you were to buy a Mac mini with an M2 chip, it is still the same, however, if you go for a more powerful variant with an M2 Pro chip, you can now connect up to three external displays at once, which may be essential for some users. If you would like to find out what displays you can connect to the Mac mini with M2 and M2 Pro, just look below:

M2

  • One monitor: up to 6K resolution at 60 Hz via Thunderbolt or up to 4K resolution at 60 Hz via HDMI
  • Two monitors: one with a maximum resolution of 6K at 60 Hz through Thunderbolt and one with a maximum resolution of 5K at 60 Hz through another Thunderbolt or 4K at 60 Hz through HDMI

M2 Pro

  • One monitor: up to 8K resolution at 60 Hz via Thunderbolt or up to 4K resolution at 240 Hz via HDMI
  • Two monitors: one with a maximum resolution of 6K at 60 Hz via Thunderbolt and one with a maximum resolution of 4K at 144 Hz via HDMI
  • Three monitors: two with a maximum resolution of 6K at 60 Hz through Thunderbolt and one with a maximum resolution of 4K at 60 Hz through HDMI.

Connectivity

Depending on whether you get a Mac mini with an M2 or an M2 Pro, the connectivity also depends on the number of available Thunderbolt connectors on the back. While the Mac mini with the M2 chip still has two Thunderbolt connectors on the back, the variant with the M2 Pro boasts four Thunderbolt connectors on the back. You can still choose during configuration whether you want classic gigabit Ethernet or 10 gigabit for an additional fee. In terms of wireless connectivity, there have also been improvements, as Wi-Fi 6E with support for the 6 GHz band and Bluetooth 5.3 is now available.

Intel is gone

In addition to the fact that until recently you could buy a Mac mini with an M1 chip, a variant with an Intel processor was also available. For a long time, the Mac mini and Pro were the only Apple computers that could be purchased with Intel processors. But that has now changed, and you can actually only buy a Mac mini with the M2 and M2 Pro chips. This means that the Mac Pro is currently the last Apple computer still sold with Intel. Apple promised at the WWDC20 developer conference that the transition to Apple Silicon would be completed within two years - unfortunately this promise was not fulfilled, however, we already know that the Mac Pro with Apple Silicon will be introduced later this year, and quite possibly sooner than we think . Intel will soon end Apple completely.
