Apple has done a lot on the camera front with the iPhone 14, both in the entry-level and Pro-branded series. Although the paper specifications look nice, there is also a great action mode and a certain Photonic Engine, but there is still something that could be improved.

Periscope lens

With regard to the telephoto lens, not much happened this year. It is supposed to take up to 2x better photos in low light, but that is practically all. It also still only provides 3x optical zoom, which isn't much considering the competition. Apple doesn't have to go straight to 10x zoom, like the Galaxy S22 Ultra can do, but it could at least be followed by the Google Pixel 7 Pro, which has 5x zoom. Such photography offers more creativity and it would be nice if Apple made some progress here. But, of course, he would probably have to implement a periscope lens, because otherwise the module would protrude even more above the body of the device, and perhaps no one wants that anymore.

Zoom, zoom, zoom

Be it Super Zoom, Res Zoom, Space Zoom, Moon Zoom, Sun Zoom, Milky Way Zoom or any other zoom, Apple is crushing the competition in digital zoom. Google Pixel 7 Pro can zoom 30x, Galaxy S22 Ultra even 100x zoom. At the same time, the results do not look bad at all (you can look, for example, here). Since Apple is the king of software, it could conjure up a truly "watchable" and, above all, usable result.

Native 8K video

Only the iPhone 14 Pro got a 48MPx camera, but even those can't shoot native 8K video. It is rather surprising, because the sensor would have the parameters for it. So if you want to record 8K videos on the latest professional iPhones, you have to use apps from third-party developers who have already added this option to their titles. However, it is possible that Apple will not wait until iPhone 15 and introduce this possibility with some tenth update of iOS 16. But it is clear that it would play into his hands next year, because it could again be a certain exclusivity, especially if it he will make the company special, which he can do anyway.

Magic retouch

The Photos app is quite powerful when it comes to photo editing. For quick and easy editing, it's ideal to use, and Apple also regularly improves it. But it still lacks some retouching functionality, where Google and Samsung are far behind. Now we are not talking about the ability to erase a freckle on a portrait, but to erase entire objects, such as unwanted people, power lines, etc. Google's Magic Eraser shows how easy it can be, but of course there are complex algorithms behind the scenes. However, you cannot tell from the result that an object was there before. If you want to do this on iOS as well, you can use the paid and probably the best application for such editing, Touch Retouch (download in the App Store for CZK 99). However, if Apple provided this natively, it would certainly make many happy.
