Not so long ago, Apple introduced a strict separation of Music, TV and Podcasts applications for its macOS operating system. In today's article, we're going to bring you several tips that will make using Podcasts on Mac even better for you.

Deactivation of automatic deletion of played episodes

The Podcasts app offers a great feature that continuously saves storage space on your Mac. The feature is to automatically delete episodes, which eliminates the need to scroll through episodes and delete them manually. However, some people like to return to episodes they have played, or automatic deletion does not suit them for any other reason. How can you disable automatic deletion of played episodes? Launch Podcasts and on the toolbar at the top of your Mac, click Podcasts -> Preferences. In the menu that appears, click on the Advanced tab at the top and disable the option to automatically delete episodes.

Change the length of the skip during playback

Podcasts on Mac always gives you the option to skip ahead or back a certain amount of time while playing each episode. If you don't like the default setting of this option, you can easily change it. In the toolbar at the top of your Mac screen, click Podcasts -> Preferences. In the Preferences menu, click on the Playback tab, and in the menu that appears, select the number of seconds to skip forward and backward.

Deactivating automatic episode downloads

While in the first paragraph of this article we described the options for disabling the automatic deletion of downloaded episodes, in this place we will take a closer look at disabling the automatic download of episodes. Once again, we will work with Preferences, which you can access from the Podcasts menu in the toolbar at the top of the Mac screen. This time, click on the General tab and in the drop-down menu, select Other in the Automatically download episodes section.

Deactivation of synchronization across devices

Native Apple Podcasts is a cross-platform app, but not everyone wants their podcasts to sync across all their Apple devices. If for whatever reason you don't care about automatically syncing podcasts, click Podcasts -> Preferences in the toolbar at the top of your Mac. In the Preferences menu, click on the Advanced tab to disable the Synchronize subscriptions across devices option.
