emancipation

Emancipation is inspired by the true story of an escaped slave who joined the Union Army. His suffering contributed to growing public opposition to slavery in the 19th century. Starring Will Smith, the cast also includes Ben Foster, Charmaine Bingwa, Gilbert Owuor and Mustafa Shakir. According to the screenplay by William N. Collage, the film is directed by Antoine Fuqua, who became famous for the action films The Fall of the White House or The Equalizer, or the new adaptation of the classic The Brave Seven (2016).

CODA has an interesting lead

CODA follows the story of Ruby, the daughter of deaf parents, who acts as an interpreter for them, as she is the only hearing member of the family. But when she discovers a talent for singing and wants to apply to a distant music school, it causes considerable friction in her family, who are practically dependent on her. The film was awarded at the Sundance Film Festival, and this Friday, August 13, it will not only be released in cinemas, but will also be streamed via Apple  TV+.

That firstness then refers to the fact that the film will be shown for deaf and hard-of-hearing cinemagoers, so it will have subtitles burned directly into the image. Of course, this applies especially to English-speaking countries (mainly the USA and Great Britain), where subtitles are not a regular part of the picture, or deaf people have to use special glasses to view them, which is not very convenient or practical. This step of burning the subtitles will not allow cinemas not to show them and at the same time no equipment will be needed to read them. According to resources it is said to be the first case of a feature film that will apply this solution.
