It seems that the community around Apple lives mainly by the display of the new iPhone. Suddenly, more and more "evidence" of a four-inch display with a 16:9 aspect ratio and similar nonsense appears. Already I commented earlier, what nonsense the whole thing is and this time I was indirectly proved right by Tim Cook himself.
Tim Cook appeared as one of the guests on the annual All Things Digital conference, in which even Steve Jobs regularly participated in the past. (Incidentally, recordings of these conferences with the late Apple co-founder were recently released on iTunes as podcast). Cook's first appearance was interesting and between the lines you could read a few things that await us in the future.
Among other things, he talked about fragmentation. That was the main complaint Steve Jobs towards Android. No wonder. There are dozens of screen sizes and specifications for Android, and developers have a hard time making their apps work on the vast majority of Android devices. In addition, as it turns out, the latest version of Android 4.0, which was released seven months ago, is only found on 7,1 percent of all devices with this operating system, and before this figure jumps to double digits, Google will probably release another major version.
Anyway, speaking at a conference with Walt Mossberg and Kara Swisher, he said:
"Another thing is that we don't suffer from fragmentation. See the percentage of users who have updated to iOS 5. We have one app store. We have one phone with one screen size and one resolution. So if you're a developer, it's easy.”
Simplicity is one of Apple's philosophies. Changing the aspect ratio is not like simply increasing the diagonal or increasing the resolution in a ratio of 2:1. Although a lot is expected from iOS 6, with a 16:9 display, the entire ecosystem would have to change drastically. Any developer would have to redo the entire app from the ground up, especially if it used full landscape mode. There are much better ways for Apple to achieve a diagonal of around 4″. If he is even planning such a thing. Finally, we can all be surprised to see the familiar 3,5 inches in the specifications…
let's say that 3,5 inches is one of the significant reasons why the iP grew to my heart. Our grandmothers used to say -> what's small is cute.
But it's not small, it's just enough.
I am definitely in favor of keeping the 3,5″ display. The bigger the display, the bigger the battery drain. If I want to view content, or play games, or work with documents or photos, I use the iPad.
I am also satisfied with the current display size...
Thank god, hopefully that means no bigger display ;) UF!
"finally"... you were already afraid that you would have to take back your opinion on the subject of a possible 4" 16:9 display ;-) I was waiting for you to mention the extensive "leakage" of components here
So if 3,5" remains, I'm satisfied. Now to disprove the new connector :/
Let's hope the 3,5″ stays, there are many other ways to make iOS interesting than a big screen.
A 3,5-inch display is also enough for me, but I think that the final message does not say anything about the future, it only reflects the current state, and even a little wrongly. Currently, even Apple has several models, not just one, the 3GS, 4 and 4S are still sold. Other than the different processor, the 3GS and 4/4S are significantly different in resolution, so there is some minor fragmentation here as well.
If Apple does increase the screen size and resolution, in order to maintain aspect ratio compatibility, it can add a still-visible bottom row of icons for unmodified applications, or simply not display the application/game on the entire screen, but only in the native resolution in the middle...
"Currently even Apple has several models, not just one, the 3GS, 4 and 4S are still sold. Leaving aside the different processor, the resolution of the 3GS and 4/4S is significantly different, so there is a certain small fragmentation here too." The aspect ratio remains the same. Which is not necessarily such a "problem".
3,5″ is absolutely the perfect size for a phone, it’s better to make the body a little smaller and keep the performance and ideally improve the endurance.. Inventing new things and tuning the existing ones is necessary, but at this stage when the iphone is at the top, I would no longer try to have the MOST powerful processor , the BIGGEST display, the MOST pixels in the camera, the MOST memory, etc., but simply to keep it always a phone... Those who know what an iPhone is will appreciate it, even if it doesn't have a 5″ display or a 4Ghz quad-core CPU :-D
I think you are a typical sheep. If he had a 3.7" iPhone, you will claim that:
"3,7" is absolutely the perfect size for a phone"
3.5., 3.7 doesn't matter, if it's not a 4.5 paddle or like SGS NOTE, it's OK.
And the size 3.5 is just perfect.
You are really stupid, stupid stupid!
You are really stupid, stupid stupid!
And you, on the other hand, are a typical anti-Apple fanatic. There are plenty of people who don't need a huge phone. I am also one of them. I'm perfectly fine with the current size of the iPhone and I don't want it to be any bigger. If they can increase the display to the current size of the phone (and it would be possible), then of course I will welcome it. But I don't want to have a "paddle", I want a phone where I can reach the entire display with my thumb.
Am I typically an anti-Apple fanatic? You're probably right, and that's why I have an iPhone and an iPad.
LOL. You outsmarted yourself, don't be angry.
It wasn't so long ago that everyone was making fun of how tiny their phone was - the smaller it was, the better it was... Now it's turned into a fight over who can offer the bigger paddle... Sure, the use of the phone has changed, but I wouldn't like to go back to the days of briefcase phones... Evolution shouldn't go this way :-) I can survive the small amount of discomfort when traveling with a smaller display just fine... And using an iPhone for 14 days on vacation as a replacement for a laptop for surfing the net is completely fine... What more can I do want :-)

I don't know, the idea of a paddle pushing me in my pocket :-) But I understand that if someone wears clothes that are twice as wide as him, then it doesn't bother him :-)
:-) It's not clothes, but acceptance of existing facts, instead
using platitudes such as a paddle or a brick. I am a current user though
primarily Blackberry, but I'm looking (reluctantly) for a capacitive device
technology, mainly due to added services, applications and the like.
I used it for weekend use and pocket carry
(normal pants :-) ), Samsung Galaxy 2, which my girlfriend has. The
a phone that has a 4,3 inch screen is: LIGHTER than the iphone and THINNER than the iphone
(for me, these are the two most important physical parameters in terms of wearing comfort – when you say a brick, for example, I mainly imagine weight and thickness) and is
larger in height and width by 7 millimeters. The result is that when wearing the
I can't feel the phone at all and I don't know about it. No compromise in wearing is necessary
do. When I consider that the current iphone, it is unused with the size
the areas under the display and especially above the display are now a bit retro, like 4
inches, which I would take as completely sufficient (perhaps because of the more comfortable
keyboard control) would increase the current phone only minimally and if
thinned out, so it wouldn't have to increase in volume at all. If they would still work on
ergonomics, they forgave for me repulsive creations like glass on the back of the
hand and preferred to focus on lower weight, so that would be the phone for me
hot candidate to buy.
But of course it's about individual feelings and everyone's pants
individual :-).
According to them, they would not increase the display for one more reason: a 4-inch mobile phone would only parasitize on the sales of the 7-inch tablet, which they are supposed to come with... So maybe with Apple, one is not sure until the release :)

iPhone makes iOS in particular… everything else is almost secondary things… when I was putting together a list of why Apple does it, I clearly identified that the basis is services and the OS (either iOS or Mac OSX)…
And in terms of marketing, how do you think Apple will lure its customers to the next model? Performance is probably already difficult, display quality is probably already difficult, new firmware version? if it will be 100% compatible on the four? Maybe even on 3GS? Hard too. They already had a marketing problem with the 4S when they had to give it exclusivity on SIRI. This year, I'm probably most curious about what Apple will come up with in the end. I can't get rid of the impression that from the point of view of the market it will have to be something more radical, after all 4S owners won't hear about "minor" changes this year and those who have iP4, if they didn't upgrade to 4S, won't be interested in minor changes . On the other hand, luring customers to a larger display seems quite cheap to me for Apple.
And what about a really round design like the 3GS?
If not, I'll probably buy a 3GS again with better covers :-(
Well, I'm also very curious about the design, even though I expect the enlarged display for exactly this reason. The round design, although I also liked it much more than the current square one, I dare say that it will not come, basically it would be a return to the past, a step back and that does not suit Apple very much.
Oh, and can someone please explain to me how it is possible that a company whose main representative thought that 3,5 inches was absolutely ideal created the tablet market? :-) So suddenly we now have two ideal diagonals :-) Could it be that Apple, all of you here, and apparently the author of the article, have misinterpreted the term ideal? :-) So I don't know, but my personal tip is that never increases the diagonal of the iPad. Why? A larger one would be more inconvenient and very impractical. But when the company that produces the iPhone started to produce the iPad at the same time, it makes it clear that from the consumer point of view in the given market segment the 3,5 inch diagonal is insufficient! And therefore not ideal. :-)
You obviously don't understand at all. The 3.5" screen is ideal for a mobile phone, why are you bringing a tablet here, which is a completely different device aimed at a completely different target group? Or maybe you use a tablet instead of a phone? Personally, I would feel like a total moron, calling with a shovel in my ear.
a tablet is a completely different device than a smartphone and intended for a completely different target group?:) So what would you call that target group, I'm very interested? Can you explain to me how two products can be different only in size, intended for two completely different target groups? If you still don't understand, tablets are meant for smartphone owners. And I would bet that even some market research would prove that the majority of people who decided to buy a tablet own, or at least once owned, a smartphone. Because, as I noted above, they are the same products, only different in size. It's exactly the same as saying that a gaming laptop is intended for someone completely different from a gaming desktop PC. As evidence for complete primitives, it is perhaps sufficient that smartphones and tablets are mostly sold side by side!!
Yes, I use an iPad at home and hardly ever touch an iPhone. As I already described, both devices are intended for exactly the same activity, but on a ten-inch diagonal, that activity is performed completely differently than on the 3.5. But you probably know a lot about that when you only mention the possibility of calling when comparing these two products. The smartphone as such is used very minimally for phone calls during its operating hours. Again, I can give a beautiful example for primitives. Everyone complains about the one-day battery life, do you think everyone gets 8 hours a day? :) I don't think so. I am convinced that every smartphone owner uses 70 to 80% of its operating time to process Internet and multimedia content and related content. And the iPad is designed for exactly this activity. In my opinion, Apple came up with the iPad because people put down their iPhones at home and went to PCs, because of course everything is done better on a PC. Well, since Apple has a minimal share of the PC market, it wanted to win over these people and built an iPad for them on the path between iPhone and PC.
try to make a phone call from an iPad as well as from an iPhone ... the iPad is, was and will be a device for the Internet, or some kind of work in which it is equal to the iPhone, but it will never be for making calls via the classic mobile network, this is what they are trying to tell you in about three posts explain
Obviously my posts are too long for you, we wrote that from a practical point of view it is nonsense to claim that a smartphone and a tablet are completely different devices and to justify it by the fact that you can make calls from a smartphone and not from a tablet, when a smartphone from the 70s to 80s % of its operating time is used for the same activities as a tablet. Such as the processing of Internet and multimedia content and everything related to it. This theory about the difference is also undermined by the fact that I use the iPad to make phone calls.
2 Martinbalcar001:
iPhone and iPad do not have two completely different target groups, but have two other target groups that overlap. An example could be that a tablet can very well replace a laptop for certain work, which a phone cannot do. I own an iPhone 4 and a new iPad, and I use each device for something different. Just the fact that the size of these devices is different predisposes them to the fact that they have completely different uses and therefore also a different target group... try to understand it and don't pretend to have all the wisdom in the world if you don't understand it, see. nonsense claims "tablets are for smartphone owners" - there are many people who have a regular phone and a tablet. You write examples for primitives, but by doing so you make yourself primitive, thanks to a misunderstanding of one of the basic points of marketing, which is the target group!
Well, the difference between the two of us is that I backed up my claims with practical examples, while you didn't. You try to discuss and you base your opinions on general expressions like "target group", certain job" "I use for something else" and again "target group". You haven't been able to specify either, and that means you don't even have an opinion. By the term opinion, I imagine an idea that emerged after some longer-term and mature reflection on a specific issue. Unfortunately, this obviously didn't work for you, you just read a couple of poor quality articles, like this one specifically about iPhone screen enlargement, and you try to pass it off as your opinion. Genuine genuine sheep. It's just that you don't think it's silly at all to write that you're using an iPad on something other than an iPhone, when the potential of both can only be realized through applications that are again exactly the same for both devices. And I'd bet that you use at least one app on both.
Martinbalcar001 you must be a person with a very high IQ when you compare a tablet with a phone, aren't you 14 years old??
"
But if the company that makes the iPhone started to make the iPad at the same time, it makes it clear that from a consumer point of view in the given market segment "
Your argument is already ABSURDLY NONSENSE. iPhone and iPad are not designed in the same market segment - one is a mobile phone, the other a tablet.
What did you get from logic? For five?
Unfortunately I didn't study logic and neither did you. But you can send me a link to a school where logic is a direct subject of study, maybe I'll go there. :-) The answers to your nonsense can be found in the reply to the comment of user Esaras.
