March 16 began the new iPad sell in the US, UK and eight other countries. The big premiere is still waiting for us, a week later. However, if you still don't know which model to buy, our guide will help you.
New or old iPad?
In addition to the new iPad, Apple also offered the basic 16 GB version of the iPad 2 at a discounted price, specifically for CZK 9 (WiFi) and CZK 990 (WiFi + 12G). Deciding between the new and old version of the tablet is purely a matter of budget. In addition, many people will be selling their current iPad, so you can expect a large number of ads for last year's model for sale, including in our bazaar.
The advantage of buying second-hand is of course a lower price and a choice of larger capacities, the disadvantage is a shorter warranty (you will still have at least a one-year warranty) and possible signs of wear. If you feel like you can't go a month without a tablet, but you don't have enough money to buy a new model, the iPad 2 is still a great choice. Although it doesn't include the great retina display, Apple A5X chip with quad-core GPU, 5 mpix iSight camera and more, it's still a high-end device and probably the second best tablet on the market.

What memory size?
iPad is sold in three sizes as standard – 16 GB, 32 GB and 64 GB. While with previous generations the choice was really up to the user's needs, the retina display changes a lot. Developers are already updating their apps for the new iPad's resolution, which means they're adding all the graphics with four times the number of pixels. This has a non-negligible effect on the size of applications. To be specific: iMovie – from 70MB to 404MB (a lot of that will be trailers though), Pages – from 95MB to 269MB, Numbers – from 109MB to 283MB, Keynote – from 115MB to 327MB, Tweetbot – from 8,8 MB to 24,6 MB. On average, the size of the application has tripled.
So if you buy the 16 GB variant, you may soon find yourself filling up the available free space or having to limit yourself significantly. If you plan to watch a lot of videos, for example, a purchase may help special external disk, however, with a lack of space for apps, you can't come up with much. We therefore recommend carefully considering which capacity to choose and possibly avoiding the lowest one. Unlike Android tablets, you cannot expand the iPad with a memory card.
WiFi or 3G/LTE?
Another important factor is connectivity. In addition to a permanent connection, the LTE model also offers GPS, but you will pay 3 crowns more for it. In addition, you won't be able to enjoy fast LTE in our conditions at all. If you have an iPhone or other phone that can create a hotspot, you can connect your iPad to it outside of the WiFi network - by sharing the Internet.
But that sharing, which seems to be a great way to save 3 crowns right away and hundreds more every month if you were to pay a data plan, is not as rosy as it seems. Creating a hotspot every time you want to download even a few e-mails will stop being fun after a few weeks, and your phone will also suffer from prolonged browsing, which will drain quickly. And I'm not talking about the low FUP set by our operators, which can be exhausted quite quickly.
Of course, it depends on the intended use. If you will use the iPad mainly at home, where the router will take care of connectivity, or at work, where you will also have access to WiFi, then the LTE/3G version may be unnecessary for you. However, if you know you'll be traveling with your iPad, even for an hour on the train to work or school, you should consider a version with a SIM tray.
At that moment, you can surf the Internet at any time with a relatively fast connection, download news to an RSS reader, handle e-mail communication or immerse yourself in social networks. And trust us, you won't want to create a hotspot every time because of it. Nowadays, the digital world is moving to the clouds, and Apple's iCloud will play an increasingly important role. Instant synchronization, instant access to information, just be online. In the end, as you may discover yourself, with unlimited access to the Internet you will use the iPad much more, which will also better justify the purchase of a device worth CZK 10-20.
How to choose an operator?
T-Mobile
Mobile Internet offered by T-Mobile for flat rates. For all variants, it is possible to purchase an additional 99 MB of data for CZK 100 if the FUP is exceeded. The pink operator is currently running an event where the FUP limit is doubled for all tariffs until the end of March.
[ws_table id=”2″]
T-Mobile has one more internet tariff in its portfolio, which is especially interesting for owners of multiple mobile devices or laptops. This is a tariff Internet Complete, which costs CZK 499 per month and the FUP is 3 GB (an increase of 1 GB costs CZK 99). The important thing, however, is that you get two SIM cards with the Internet Komplet tariff, so practically two internets that you can use on your phones, tablets or laptops.
T-Mobile boasts the fastest 3G network, in which it is the only domestic operator to use HSPA+ technology, and it covers 83% of the population (599 cities and towns with over 2 inhabitants).
Vodafone
To the tariff Internet in a tablet Vodafone offers the purchase of additional data, where for 200 CZK you get the full FUP limit once again, i.e. 500 MB for the Super version, 1 GB for the Premium version.
Also with the tariff Mobile Internet additional data can be purchased if the FUP limit is exceeded, but this time it costs CZK 100, for which you will again receive the same amount of extra data.
Vodafone currently covers 3% of the population with its 68G network.

O2
Price Mobile Internet differs from competitors in that O2 applies so-called weekly drawdown for FUP limits, which means that the limit is divided and you can use only a quarter of it each week, i.e. 37,5 MB for the Start version and 125 MB for the classic version. The option to purchase a mobile Internet tariff is only possible with a mobile tariff.
Weekly drawdown is no longer introduced for the tariff Mobile Internet. However, with all data plans, you can redeem daily packs with O2, which serve as additional data if you exceed the FUP limit. The daily FUP of such a package is 100 MB and O2 offers it in four variants – one for CZK 50, five for CZK 200, ten for CZK 350 and 30 for CZK 900.
O2 currently covers 3% of the population with its 55G network.

All the above prices are basic, however, each operator offers different discounts and promotions depending on the services and tariffs you use with them. So if you intend to purchase a new data plan, be sure to check with your operator whether you can get it at a discounted price.
If you're still hesitating whether to buy an iPad at all, you can be inspired by our series of articles from last year iPad and Me.
If you GET THE WI-FI VERSION AND you have an iPhone or other phone that can create a hotspot, you can connect your iPad to it outside of the WiFi network - by sharing the Internet.
I would separate it here to make sense.
"But that sharing, which seems like a great way to save 3 crowns right away and hundreds more every month if you were to pay a data plan, is not as rosy as it seems. Creating a hotspot every time you want to download even a few e-mails will stop being fun after a few weeks, and your phone will also suffer from prolonged browsing, which will drain quickly. And I'm not talking about the low FUP that our operators have set, which may be exhausted quite quickly."
I don't quite understand this. After all, I will use up the FUP anyway, and I can have an unlimited tariff on a mobile phone with a hotspot.
Rather, the possibility to create a hotspot with an iPad should have been mentioned?
I would also like to mention one thing that is not widely known, and that is that the hotspot on the iPhone uses GPS in addition to Wi-Fi, so it is possible to use iPad Wi-Fi for navigation as well. I just don't know if the iPad has to be paired using Wi-Fi or BT.
In any case, the hassle with it and the energy requirement is a spring.
The iPad can connect to the iPhone 4/4s using both Wi-Fi and Bluetooth
And the fact that you can't create a hotspot with the iPad
And yes, most users with mobile internet will run out of FUP... I doubt that most people have unlimited mobile internet.
And in response to the first comment:
I recommend Datart, if only for the reason that it offers insurance for about 2000. In case of mechanical breakage, theft, misplacement, etc., etc., they will immediately exchange it for a new piece. I use this service with a Macbook and I cannot praise it enough. You have so much more confidence.
Moreover, the prices there are similar.
"Except for the fact that you can't create a hotspot with the iPad" ... Except for the fact that you probably don't have enough information... http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=uD3fuKOe6WQ#!
It would take more and better clean Mr. Smart see iPad=hotspot
And yes, most people don't have an unlimited tariff like me, but it was just an example so that it would make sense.
I also lack a tip where to buy it - what should I prepare for?
There are about three alternatives:
1. web apple store (normal price, waiting several weeks)
2. APR (normal price, debatable availability, possibility of pre-booking???)
3. electronics retailers (Datart/Electroworld) (higher price, immediate availability?)
I would like to buy a new iPad, but I still don't know which variant to choose... I would prefer to have it at home on Friday/Saturday :)
We will publish a separate article on this when we know the prices at the dealers. However, I expect the prices at the Apple Online Store to be a bit better than elsewhere, just waiting about 1-2 weeks.
Great, I'm looking forward to it - just to be on time :)
I would also like information on expected availability in chains.
The answer from the Czech Apple Store representative was that there will be no pre-orders, so the availability is Friday and I'm a bit worried about the date until when... 2-3 weeks?? God forbid not. (Just for fun, this info might be useful.)
It's different with t-mobile. With the premium tariff, you already have the standard 2GB FUP, and if you also take one more SIM for data, for example, for the iPad... you will get 3GB FUP on each SIM... i.e. a total of 6GB for 499 CZK, and most likely the customer will switch to the Complete tariff with this step.
According to the tests, the iPad 2 is not the second best, it is the new iPad
http://www.mobilmania.cz/clanky/hodnoceni-v-katalogu-tabletu-ipad-zustal-pod-vrcholem/sc-3-a-1319873/default.aspx
What can you expect from the Mobilmania catalog, what can you throw in pure HW specifications and they get the "king of tablets". "The more stripes, the more Adidas" comparisons don't really tell you how good the tablet is."
wait for the well-founded opinion of Radek Hulán... it will be something :o)
I wouldn't consider mobile mania to be objective. Even if she is the only one of her kind ;)
You'd better not talk about data tariffs with our operators. :) I will be buying the new iPad and I will probably switch to the 32GB variant from the last iPad2, the 16GB variant, as I see it, the applications will have a lot of MB :))
Does anyone know how it is with the warranty in the Czech Apple store? They say one year, but by law it should be two, right?
The warranty is 2 years.
There are actually two.
IVM Premium+, price 449 CZK/month, FUP 1,2 MB in the Vodafone table, there will probably be an error...
Yes, already fixed.
I was interested: If you plan to watch a lot of videos, it might help you, for example, to buy a special external drive,... I didn't know this option existed. What disc is it?
Kingston Wi-Drive. I would have linked our review, but it got lost when I moved to the new site, so it won't be here for a few days :-)
It seems to me that the new iPad has gone up in price
