Don't know how to throw 20 million dollars (approx. 441 million CZK) out the window? It is enough to have an established company and you think of renaming it without even knowing if the new name is trademarked. This is exactly what Mark Zuckerberg did with his Facebook company, which will be called Meta. But then there's Meta PC.

At the end of October, Facebook announced that it is changing its name to Meta, as an umbrella company that will include not only the Facebook social network itself, but also Messenger, Instagram, WhatsApp, Oculus and others. Despite the announcement of the rebrand, however, it seems the company hasn't quite nailed everything that will be needed for a smooth name transition.

There is the company Meta PC, whose founders Joe Darger and Zack Shutt filed a trademark application for this name on August 23rd. It applies to anything related to computers, including their peripherals, servers, network devices, laptops, tablets and other components. Magazine TMZ then they said that although their company has been operating for a year, they applied only this year. They added that they were willing to give up the name if Facebook/Zuckerberg/Meta paid them $20 million for it.

Of course, there are various legal hurdles and potential lawsuits over the brand, according to a source familiar with the matter. He mentions that Facebook has probably already dealt with the necessary rights to use the trademark beforehand, and that the whole case may not be so "hot". But if Meta PC didn't get paid for its name, it's already profiting from it. In fact, the number of followers of its accounts on social networks increased by 5%, which could at least lead to higher sales of the brand's computers.
