Acquisitions of all kinds are not unusual in the world of technology, quite the opposite. In today's installment of our throwback, we look back to 2013, when Yahoo bought the blogging platform Tumblr. In the second part of the article, we will recall the arrival of the AppleLink platform.

Yahoo buys Tumblr (2013)

On May 20, 2013, Yahoo decided to acquire the popular blogging platform Tumblr. But the acquisition didn't exactly inspire enthusiasm among many Tumblr users. The reason was that, in addition to sharing normal photos, videos and texts, the said platform also served to spread pornography, and the owners of these thematic blogs were afraid that Yahoo would put a stop to their hobby. However, Yahoo has promised that it will operate Tumblr as a separate company and will only take action against accounts that violate applicable laws in any way. Yahoo finally did a purge that killed a lot of blogs. The definitive end of "adult content" on Tumblr finally came in March 2019.

Here Comes AppleLink (1986)

On May 20, 1986, the AppleLink service was created. AppleLink was an online service of Apple Computer that served distributors, third-party developers, but also users, and before the mass commercialization of the Internet, it was especially popular among owners of early Macintosh and Apple IIGS computers. The service was offered to several different target consumer groups between 1986 and 1994, and was gradually replaced first by the (very short-lived) eWorld service, and eventually by various Apple websites.
