In today's installment of our regular series on significant events in the field of technology, we recall two important premieres. One of them is the introduction of the first Walkman from Sony, the other the first GSM call that took place in Finland.

First Sony Walkman (1979)

Sony introduced its Sony Walkman TPS-L1 on July 1979, 2. The portable cassette player weighed less than 400 grams and was available in blue and silver. The first GSM phone call (1991)

The world's first GSM phone call took place in Finland on July 1, 1991. It was conducted by the then Finnish Prime Minister Harri Holkeri with the help of a Nokia phone, which operated on a frequency of 900 MHz under the wings of a private operator. At that time, the Prime Minister successfully appealed to Deputy Mayor Kaarina Suonio in Tampere.
