In today's episode of the series about important milestones in the field of technology, we will talk about the automotive industry, among other things. Today is the anniversary of the first car ride with an internal combustion engine, which took place in 1886. But we also remember the agreement between IBM and Apple, the result of which was, among other things, the use of PowerPC processors in Apple computers.

First car ride with an internal combustion engine (1886)

On July 3, 1886, Karl Benz took his Patent Motor Wagen No. 1 for a drive around Mannheim's Ringstraße. During his drive, he reached a speed of 16 kilometers per hour, and it was the first ever car driven by an internal combustion engine. In addition to the gasoline engine, the car also had electric combustion, a water cooler or carburetor.

Agreement between Apple and IBM (1991)

On July 3, 1991, John Sculley met with Jim Cannavino of IBM. The aim of the mutual meeting was to conclude and sign an agreement, as a result of which the integration of enterprise systems from IBM into Macs was made possible. Apple was also allowed to use PowerPC processors in its computers under this agreement. Apple used PowerPC processors until 2006, when it switched to processors from Intel.
