Also in today's installment of our regular series, we look into space. This time we will go back to 2001, when the Mars Odyssey probe was launched into space. In addition to this event, we will also commemorate the introduction of computers of the System 360 product line from IBM.

IBM introduces the System 360 (1964)

IBM introduced its System 7 line of computers on April 1964, 360. There were a total of five models at the time, and IBM's goal, among other things, was to provide potential customers with the widest possible range of computer sizes and designs. Machines under the System 360 brand were a huge success, bringing in $100 billion in profits for IBM. IBM's System 360 series computers were among the third generation computers and featured, among other things, the ability to use the same software. They were able to work with both fixed and variable length operands, and were even so popular that they also received a number of imitations.

Mars Odyssey launch (2001)

On April 7, 2001, a probe named Mars Odyssey was launched into space. It was an American space probe, registered in COSPAR under the designation 2001-013A. The Mars Odyssey probe was launched from Cape Canaveral as part of NASA's Mars Exploration Program. The main mission of the Mars Odyssey probe was to investigate the surface of the planet Mars, to determine the possible presence of water on the surface of Mars, and also to explore the polar caps with the help of a spectrometer. The Mars Odyssey probe was launched into orbit using a Delta II launch vehicle, its mission lasted from 2001 and was successfully completed in 2004.
