In one of the previous parts of our series on significant events in the field of technology, we also mentioned the breaking of the Enigma code. Alan Turing played a significant role in it, whose birth we commemorate in today's work for a change. In addition, the launch of the Game Boy Color game console will also be discussed.

Alan Turing was born (1912)

On November 23, 1912, Alan Turing was born in London. Brought up by relatives and nannies, he attended Sherborne High School, studied mathematics at King's College, Cambridge, 1931–1934, where he was also elected a Fellow of the College in 1935 for his dissertation on the Central Limit Theorem. Alan Turing became famous not only as the author of the article "On Computable Numbers, with an Application to the Entscheidungsproblem", in which he defined the name of the Turing machine, but also made history during the Second World War, when he was one of the most important members of the team deciphering German secret codes from Enigma and Tunny machines.

Here Comes the Game Boy Color (1998)

On November 23, 1998, Nintendo began selling its Game Boy Color handheld game console in Europe. It was the successor to the very popular classic Game Boy, which - as its name suggests - was equipped with a color display. The Game Boy Color, like the classic Game Boy, was equipped with an eight-bit processor from Sharp's workshop, and represented a representative of the fifth generation game consoles. This console gained great popularity among gamers, and managed to sell 118,69 million units worldwide. Nintendo discontinued the Game Boy Color in March 2003, shortly after the release of the Game Boy Advance SP console.
