It has been exactly one year since the Czech edition of the Steve Jobs biographical book by Walter Isaacson appeared on the shelves of real and virtual bookstores. The interest of readers was considerable, the print run of 40 copies of the printed book is practically sold out. The digital version sold a total of over 000 units, of which iTunes has almost 2 units on their account. For fans of rankings and statistics, we have another interesting thing here. The biography of Jobs held the first place in sales in the iBookstore for the first three months, a year after the start of sales it is still in the top twenty. In this context, few people will be surprised that around a thousand people have purchased the 100-hour narrated book.
Thanks for the recap. I would just add that it is a shame that during the year the monstrous translation did not receive a thorough revision, at least for the e-form. And the printed books are "sold out", among other things, because Apple sellers bought them in bulk and give them as gifts (the other day in iWorld they offered me this book as a gift with the cable I bought, the same in Qstore). Only after deducting the marketing items could we talk about the number of copies sold. I estimate it at 5-10 max.
The version that is in iTunes has gone through three revisions. If you have the first version, download the book again. I don't see how it is with other eReading sellers, Wooky,... whether they have somehow updated the e-book.
Apple salespeople really bought the book. In large, because they had "big eyes". Here 200, here 500 pieces. But I doubt they bought 3/4 of the load. (How many of those sellers are there in the Czech Republic?) Realistically, it was up to 8 units.
Hello, but there is not a single line from the publisher that they have made any revisions and the errors have been removed, which I think should be in their eminent interest, otherwise they won't sell anything there with those bad reviews, and they haven't added any affected buyers yet not a single line in the reviews that it has already been fixed, and if I understood the latest version of iBooks correctly, the corrections of the current shortened work were not even possible until now. So how is it?
You won't believe me if I tell you that changing the initial text without diacritics to CZECH in the unicode era only took about two months, about 5 urgent e-mails were sent, and it was already successful the second time. I'd rather not talk about other things, because I would be very cruel to myself.
Yes, it is possible to update an older version to a newer one in the latest iBooks.
Thank you Mr. Kubín for the answer.
Otherwise, I would like to ask those who bought the book to write on the page and possibly here how much the translation has improved. I have a paper book and I would like to buy the electronic one, but I don't have the courage after the experience with the paper one. There is nothing clear about the quality of the translation of the audiobook, and I would be interested in that.
The electronic biography of Steve Jobs in iTunes is based on a reprint of the first (corrected) edition. I can't tell you how many mistakes were "picked up". Maybe this one will help you review.
The texts for the audiobook are again based on the reprint and were still edited so that they fit Mr. Stránská better.
Maybe a stupid question, but I'll ask anyway: Is the book worth reading? And how is it read?
By the way, surprisingly, Steve Jobs influences my life more the longer he is gone.
You can read small samples (working version) here: 1, 2, 3.
Thanks, I'll be glad to read it.
excellent book.
